Reporting to the Manager, PGCRL Facilities Operations, the Supervisor, PGCRL Facilities Operations will oversee the general operation, mechanical and electrical maintenance, repair and minor installation activities for the Peter Gilgan Center for Research and Learning (PGCRL) SickKids facility to provide a safe and comfortable environment for researchers and staff. The Supervisor, PGCRL Facilities Operations will supervise staff and deal with scheduling and labor-related issues including discipline procedures.
They will also negotiate service contracts with the mechanical, electrical and fire safety equipment service suppliers and supervise maintenance work, including minimizing cost and maximizing operational efficiencies through the supervision of full-time unionized staff and contract workers (as needed). Plan, schedule and supervise the operation, maintenance and repair work of mechanical and electrical equipment/systems to provide a safe, secure, reliable and efficient environment Supervise the contractors who inspect/service the Fire Safety and Building Automation Systems, ensure that all components, devices, and major equipment are operational at all times Provide on call response to emergency situations on weekends and after hours Monitor, inspect and properly document all work to ensure quality of workmanship meets applicable codes,
standards, regulations and guidelines and performs safety inspections Review daily maintenance work orders, prioritize, schedule and assign work to staff and conduct regular preventive maintenance inspections on equipment and hospital facilities to ensure operational parameters are maintained Ensure that all assigned work is carried out in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with hospital and departmental procedures and the Occupational and Safety Act Provide cost estimates and arrange outside contractors/supplies for systems and equipment installation maintenance and repairs activities when necessary Requisite all required equipment and materials to support work activities, collaborate with hospital staff and departments to identify areas that require maintenance improvement, and ensure appropriate response to customer' requests Prepare and present proposals to the Manager, Facilities Operations or to the Director, Research Operations for approval Liaise with renovation project teams to ensure building facility shutdowns are arranged and assistance in construction active is available Work with manager and the other supervisors with Human Resources/Labor Relations issues that pertain to recruitment, orientation, training, retention, grievance procedures, performance appraisals, discipline, termination and succession planning. CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System)
College Diploma and Building Environmental Systems Certificate or university degree in Engineering Minimum five years experience as Supervisor of Facilities Operations in a Healthcare or industrial environment, preferably working in a unionized environment setting Proven leadership, troubleshooting, and team building skills, ability to lead and supervise skilled trades group Strong understanding of HVAC controls, BAS, Fire Alarm and Fire Protection systems, back-up power, water treatment system, lighting controls Understand importance and demonstrates ability to foster a culture of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.
