Location: Fernwood Neighbourhood House, Victoria, BC (In-person, on-site)
Management Status: Non-Manager
Reports To: Manager, and Coordinator
Direct Reports: None
Hours/work schedule: Casual Position - this position will be employed on an on-call basis. There is no guarantee of hours. Scheduled shifts would fall between Monday and Friday and between 7:15 am and 5:30 pm

Position Overview
Fernwood Neighbourhood House is seeking On-Call Early Childhood Educator Assistant (ECEA) to join our Childcare team.
The successful candidate will support the growth, learning, and well-being of children by creating a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment while building positive relationships with children, families, and coworkers.
Wage
On-Call Early Childhood Educator Assistant (ECEA)
- The hourly wage for this On-Call ECEA position is currently $21.00/hour.
Upon implementation of the Collective Agreement and confirmation/receipt of applicable funding, the wage rate will increase to:
- Probationary Rate: $24.52/hour
- After Successful Completion of Probation: $28.85/hour
Eligible employees will receive retroactive pay adjustments as outlined in the Collective Agreement,
subject to confirmation and receipt of applicable funding. Retroactive adjustments will be applied back to the employee’s eligible start date of employment.
The timing of these wage changes will be implemented in accordance with the Collective Agreement implementation schedule.
Key Responsibilities
On-Call Early Childhood Educator Assistant (ECEA)
- Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of children by being supportive, caring, and present.
- Act as a primary point of contact for parents and guardians.
- Promote children's social-emotional development through daily interactions.
- Assist in creating supportive, emergent, and inclusive learning environments.
- Support children's development through observations and age-appropriate activities.
- Reinforce developmentally appropriate expectations and routines.
- Build positive relationships with children, families, and coworkers.
- Assist with daily cleaning and sanitizing of program spaces.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required
- Valid BC Early Childhood Educator Assistant Certificate
- Current First Aid Certificate
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team
Assets
- Experience working in licensed childcare
- Additional languages
- Knowledge of BC Child Care Licensing Regulations
Working Conditions
- Ability to lift and move program equipment and furniture.
- Ability to work in a busy, active, and occasionally noisy environment.
- Ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
- Frequent standing, bending, crouching, and occasional lifting.
- Work respectfully with diverse children, families, and community members.

Fernwood Neighbourhood House is a unionized workplace, and this position is part of the BC General Employees' Union (BCGEU) bargaining unit.
Wages, benefits, and other terms and conditions of employment are governed by the Collective Agreement. Please note that certain wage increases may be subject to the availability of funding. Where applicable and funding is received, eligible employees may receive retroactive wage adjustments in accordance with the Collective Agreement and funding requirements.
Union dues will be deducted from employees' pay in accordance with the Collective Agreement and BCGEU policies..
