RESPONSIBILITIES Provide resident-centred support to individuals referred to the Behavioural Supports Ontario (BSO) team, in alignment with peopleCare’s BSO philosophy and program guidelines. Work under the direction of the BSO RPN to help implement and monitor care plans that address responsive behaviours safely and support resident stability in the current care setting. Support residents and families using evidence-informed approaches and therapeutic communication strategies.

Coach, mentor, and support frontline staff (including PSWs) in applying behaviour support strategies, care plan interventions, and Kardex directions. Provide feedback and input to the BSO RPN and care team regarding resident responses, behaviour patterns, and opportunities to improve care approaches. Contribute to P.I.E.C.E.S. documentation, behaviour tracking, care planning, and required BSO documentation.

Participate in resident reviews, BSO evaluations, and interdisciplinary discussions (including RAP conferences, as requested). Support the team in identifying and implementing strategies to reduce risk (including falls prevention interventions) for residents with responsive behaviours. Use BSO protocols, tools,



and best practices to guide behavioural support interventions and consistent service delivery.

Participate in required education/training and collaborate with internal and external partners/resources, including specialized behavioural and mental health supports, as needed.

EDUCATION &

EXPERIENCE Current Personal Support Worker (PSW) Certificate required. Previous experience supporting older adults with responsive behaviours, dementia, mental health, or complex care needs in long-term care or a related setting is preferred. Knowledge of (or experience with) BSO principles, P.I.E.C.E.S., and behaviour support approaches is an asset; preference may be given to candidates with relevant BSO core competencies/training.

Robust communication, observation, and teamwork skills with the ability to coach and support frontline staff in a respectful, collaborative manner. Flexibility to work all shifts (days/evenings/nights/weekends) based on resident needs and program requirements, and ability to meet all standard PSW role/ requirements.
