Role Description The Photography Coach role is a part-time, contract position based in Vancouver, BC. The coach will lead beginner-focused photography classes, guiding students through camera fundamentals, composition, exposure, and practical shooting exercises in both classroom and outdoor settings.
Responsibilities include preparing for each lesson, selecting shooting locations, demonstrating techniques in real time, and providing individualized feedback to help students improve their skills. The role involves fostering a supportive, non-intimidating learning environment, managing small class groups,
and ensuring safety and professionalism during all field sessions.
The Photography
Coach may also assist with course materials, local marketing activities, and coordination with the broader Learn Photography Canada team.
Qualifications
- Strong practical photography skills, including familiarity with DSLR/mirrorless cameras, exposure settings, composition, and basic post-processing.
- Demonstrated teaching, coaching, or mentoring experience, with the ability to explain technical concepts in clear, accessible language.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a patient, encouraging approach to working with beginner learners.
- Ability to plan and organize classes, manage small groups on location, and adapt lessons to different learning styles.
- Comfort leading in office, outdoor sessions in varying weather conditions, and knowledge of local Ottawa photographic locations is an asset.
- Strong time-management and reliability, including punctuality and professionalism in all student interactions.
- Basic digital literacy, including using online tools for scheduling, communication, and course materials.
- Prior experience in adult education, arts instruction, or tourism guiding is beneficial; formal training in photography or education is an asset.
