Physical Education & Health Teacher Kindergarten to Grade 12

Stein Valley Nlakapamux School (SVNS) in Lytton, British Columbia, is seeking an enthusiastic, creative, and student-centred Physical Education & Health Teacher to join our school community for the 2026–2027 school year.

SVNS is a K–12 Independent School serving approximately 150 students, along with an Adult Diploma Program. We are a growing and innovative First Nations school that weaves Nlakapamux culture, language, land-based learning, and community knowledge together with the BC curriculum.

We are looking for a teacher who is passionate about physical education, health, wellness, and helping students develop positive lifelong relationships with movement, recreation, teamwork, and personal wellbeing.

The successful candidate will teach Physical Education and Health from Kindergarten through Grade 12 and will have opportunities to develop engaging, hands-on, culturally responsive, and land-based learning experiences for our students.

SVNS provides students with a variety of opportunities beyond the traditional classroom, including agriculture, outdoor education, sports, clubs, a skate park, and community-based learning opportunities. Position Responsibilities The successful candidate will:

- Teach Physical Education and Health to students from Kindergarten to Grade 12.
- Plan and deliver engaging, age-appropriate physical education programs.
- Develop Health and Career Education learning experiences appropriate to student age and grade level.
- Create opportunities for students to participate in individual and team sports.
- Promote physical activity, healthy lifestyles, wellness, and positive mental health.
- Support students in developing teamwork, leadership, communication, cooperation, and sportsmanship.
- Incorporate land-based, outdoor, and experiential learning whenever appropriate.
- Integrate Nlakapamux culture, community knowledge, and local learning opportunities into Physical Education and Health programming.
- Provide inclusive opportunities for students with diverse abilities, interests, and learning needs.




- Encourage students who may have limited experience or confidence in physical activity.
- Organize and support school sports, extracurricular activities, clubs, tournaments, and community recreation opportunities where appropriate.
- Maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive gymnasium and learning environment.
- Teach and reinforce appropriate safety practices during physical activities and outdoor learning.
- Assess student learning in accordance with the BC curriculum and school expectations.
- Work collaboratively with classroom teachers, Educational Assistants, support staff, administration, families, and community members.
- Participate in school events, professional development, staff meetings, and community activities.
- Support the overall academic, social, emotional, physical, and cultural wellbeing of students.

Indigenous and Land-Based Education SVNS is committed to providing education that recognizes students as whole people and supports their identity, culture, relationships, wellbeing, and academic development.

The successful candidate should be willing to learn from and work respectfully with Nlakapamux Elders, families, community members, and staff.

Experience or interest in Indigenous education, land-based learning, outdoor education, traditional games, cultural activities, or community-based recreation would be considered an asset.

We are looking for someone who understands that Physical Education can extend beyond the gymnasium and can include learning on the land, in the community, and through culturally relevant experiences.

Employment Qualifications The successful applicant will ideally have:

- Valid BC Teacher Certification or eligibility for certification with the BC Teacher Regulation Branch.
- A Bachelor of Education or equivalent teaching qualification.
- Physical Education and/or Health teaching experience.
- Experience teaching students across multiple grade levels.
- Knowledge of the BC Curriculum, particularly Physical and Health Education.
- Strong classroom management and student engagement skills.
- Strong organizational and planning skills.
- Ability to create inclusive and engaging learning environments.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a school team.
- A commitment to student wellbeing and success.
- A willingness to work respectfully with Indigenous students, families, Elders, and community members.
- Experience working in a First Nations or Indigenous school is an asset.
- Experience with outdoor education, land-based learning, coaching, or school athletics is an asset.
- Current First Aid certification is an asset.




- A clear Criminal Record Check for working with vulnerable populations is required.
