Armo Tool is looking for an experienced Precision Grinder to join our team in London, Ontario.
This is an opportunity for a skilled tradesperson who takes pride in precision work and is comfortable producing complex components where tolerances, surface finish, accuracy, and repeatability matter.
You won't simply be loading and unloading parts. We're looking for someone who understands the grinding process and can independently take a job from drawing and setup through grinding, troubleshooting, inspection, and completion.
If you have a strong background in aerospace, tool and die, or another high-precision manufacturing environment and are comfortable working in tenths, we'd like to hear from you.
As a Precision Grinder, you will:
- Set up and operate precision grinding equipment, including surface, cylindrical, ID/OD, and CNC grinders.
- Produce components to tight dimensional, geometric, and surface-finish requirements, including tolerances in the tenths (0.0001") where required.
- Read and interpret complex engineering drawings, specifications, and GD&T.;
- Determine appropriate grinding wheels, work holding, speeds, feeds, and grinding parameters.
- Dress, true, and balance grinding wheels as required.
- Establish machine setups and work offsets and make adjustments throughout the grinding process.
- Work with hardened steels, tool steels, stainless steels, nickel-based alloys, and other demanding materials.
- Perform in-process and final inspections using micrometers, bore gauges, height gauges, indicators, surface-finish equipment, and other precision measuring tools.
- Control critical characteristics including size, roundness, concentricity, straightness, flatness, and surface finish.
- Diagnose and correct grinding issues such as taper, chatter, burn, wheel loading, and dimensional variation.
- Complete production, inspection, and traceability documentation accurately.
- Work closely with Engineering, Quality, and Manufacturing to troubleshoot and resolve technical or quality issues.
- Maintain equipment and work areas while following established quality and safety requirements.
We're looking for someone with:
- 3+ years of precision grinding experience in aerospace, tool and die, defence, medical, or another tight-tolerance manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated experience independently setting up and operating precision grinding equipment.
- Proven ability to consistently hold tight tolerances, including work in the tenths where required.
- Strong blueprint-reading and GD&T; skills.
- A solid understanding of grinding principles, abrasives, wheel selection, dressing techniques, speeds, feeds, and process parameters.
- Experience working with hardened or difficult-to-machine materials.
- Strong precision measurement and inspection skills.
- The ability to troubleshoot problems and make informed adjustments at the machine.
- Strong attention to detail and pride in producing high-quality work.
Experience with aerospace manufacturing, AS9100, CNC grinding/programming, ID/OD cylindrical grinding, jig grinding, form grinding, advanced inspection equipment, SPC, or customer-specific aerospace requirements would be an asset.
Preferred Experience
- Proven experience operating CNC grinding machines, CNC lathe, or CNC milling machines in a manufacturing environment
- Strong mechanical knowledge with the ability to read blueprints and interpret technical drawings accurately
- Familiarity with CAD software such as SolidWorks or other design tools for reviewing component specifications
- Basic math skills for measurements, calculations, and setting machine parameters
- Hands-on experience with hand tools, calipers, micrometers, welding techniques, and power tools
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles to support efficient workflow improvements
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced production setting
