As a member of an interdisciplinary team and under general supervision of the Area Manager, Allied Health, the Recreation Therapist II ensures that recreation therapy practice is evidence based and meets recreation therapy standards of practice. The therapist is responsible for designing and delivering an active, creative, client centered and engaging program to the long term care residents. The position involves assessment, program development, provision of patient care, supervision of two therapy assistants and volunteers, and participation in program evaluation. It will also include orientation of students to the service and participation in staff development. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.
Description:
As a Recreation Therapist II, you will take a leadership role in ensuring that the level of therapeutic recreation practice in your clinical area is evidence based, patient-and family-centred and in accordance with policies, procedures and standards of practice. You will provide clinical leadership to ensure secure and efficient care as well as coordinate the assessment, treatment, education and care of the patient (client, resident).
You will participate in program development to ensure effective delivery of services, including the development of protocols, forms, education, and quality improvement initiatives. You will complete assessment, treatment, education and management of clients¿ treatment progress and provide clinical support and consultation. You will collaborate and communicate with the health care team and participate in patient rounds, family conferences and meetings as related to the client and family.

Required Qualifications: Completion of bachelor's degree in Recreation Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation or Recreation and Leisure Studies. Active or eligible registration for Professional Membership with Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association (ATRA). Minimum three years' related clinical experience as a Recreation Therapist.
Additional Required Qualifications: Baccalaureate in Therapeutic Recreation or Recreation and Leisure Studies or meets the criteria for a professional membership with the Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association. Active member of the Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association.
Preferred Qualifications: Previous experience as a Recreation Therapist developing and providing functional intervention, leisure education and recreation participation in a variety of clinical and community settings. Experience with electronic charting, preferably Connect Care (Epic). Experience providing leadership to therapy assistants.
