(employee will be working with or have access to children or vulnerable adults and requires a Criminal Record Check) Required for Professional Registration In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority, patient safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone at VIHA; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position. Reports to the Nurse Manager, or designate, the Registered Nurse - Perinatal plans and provides direct nursing care to obstetrical patients in the hospital in accordance with the unit/program philosophy, competency guidelines, policies; national, provincial, regional and local obstetrical guidelines and the BC College of Nurses and Midwives Standards for Nursing Practice in British Columbia.
QUALIFICATIONS: Education, Training And Experience Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN registrant Graduate of a recognized Perinatal Nursing specialty program. Current CPR Basic Rescuer.
Breastfeeding Course Certificate
Two (2) years recent related experience; OR an equivalent combination of education,
training and experience Skills And Abilities - Ability to apply the nursing process effectively in a well-organized manner to the care of assigned patients as required by the hospital and described in BC College of Nurses and Midwives Standared of Nursing Practice.

- Ability to remain calm and to act appropriately in stressful and emergency situations. This is a Temporary Full Time RN position in Maternity. Applicants must have Perinatal Specialty Certification or equivalent education and experience. This position is on a combined maternal child unit, caring for both pediatric and perinatal patients as operationally needed. Willingness to train, orientate and work on the pediatric unit is required.A first in Canada: minimum Nurse to Patient Ratios (mNPRs) are here in BC!
