Your Opportunity

The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of comprehensive patient and family centered care on an acute surgical unit in accordance with the UAH and AHS policy and procedures. 3F4 is an 18+ bed unit providing care to Orthopedic and General Surgery patients received from the operating room, emergency department, intensive care unit and directly from home and/or surgery clinics. Decisions are made in a collaborative multidisciplinary team environment. The RN is expected to participate in quality improvement initiatives; supporting and maintaining high quality patient care strategies within the surgery program.

The RN is expected to take on the responsibility of charge nurse as required. The RN must be able to demonstrate excellent assessment, documentation, clinical, organizational and patient care skills. Proficiency at medication administration calculations is required.

Description

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance.

You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.





PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $40.76 to $55.79 per hour. Upon obtaining a full practice permit, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii), as applicable.

Required Qualifications

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA).

Current Basic Cardiac Life

Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification.

Successful candidate is expected to pass the medication calculation exam (80% score) provided by the surgery program within 14 days of orientation.

Medication

Calculation exams is provided during the surgery orientation days or scheduled by the CNE. The candidate has 3 attempts to pass the exam within the 2-week orientation period. The candidate must be able to work within a team environment and to effectively contribute to patient/client planning processes.

Excellent communication skills, a compassionate and caring attitude, and attention to detail are necessary. Robust interpersonal, problem solving and conflict resolution skills are needed. Demonstrated initiative, reliability, flexibility and critical thinking.

The RN must be able to work in a fast paced, physically demanding environment, including standing, walking, lifting, pushing/pulling greater 25-50lbs, as well as reaching for patients who range from low to high BMI. Must not have any current activity restrictions, such as pulling, pushing, reaching and bending.

Preferred Qualifications

Ability to communicate findings concisely, accurately, in both written and verbal form, deal with stressful situations, prioritize complex patient care needs and workload assignment, while dealing with frequent interruptions. Preference given to candidates with greater than 2 years of recent Ortho/General Surgery experience. Maintain collaborative working relationships in a multidisciplinary environment. Strong patient teaching skills.
