Location - This role is in-person at North Campus Edmonton.

This leadership position reports directly to the Research Director of the Pediatric Emergency: Advancing Knowledge (PEAK) Research Team as well as requires direct interaction and coordination with divisional Principal Investigators who are conducting research within the division. The PEAK Research Team is a part of the Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Alberta.

The Program Lead must balance managing the oversight of ongoing PEAK studies, multiple investigators (principal investigators, emergency physicians, other divisional members) as well as the supervision and administrative work of a large team. It is essential the Program Lead understand and advocate for what is best for the research team as well as understand the needs of the clinical team in the pediatric emergency department (at the Stollery Children's Hospital).

The Program Lead is the point of contact for issues management when there are problems that need to be addressed for or between research staff
and clinical staff.

Pediatric Emergency Medicine research studies will be divided between the Program Lead and other Research Coordinator(s), depending on the study and the experience required to lead the study. As a result, the Program Lead will often lead Health Canada-regulated trials and national or multi-institutional studies.

The Program Lead understands how funds are used within the program and budgets appropriately for upcoming studies. The Program Lead evaluates presented budgets and determines if there are sufficient funds to complete the research and if not, present an acceptable budget to the sponsor. Along with managing budgets the Program Lead assesses current projects for feasibility and acceptability in the PEAK research team as well as reviews the methodology and suggests changes when needed in order for a study to be properly and safely operationalized, without interfering with ongoing research.

This position also requires flexibility in hours to allow for responding to urgent needs of front-line recruitment (including responding to serious adverse events or protocol deviations that require timely reporting and documentation).
