Your Role Senior Test Specialist, Mechanical or Electrical (Permanent) – Halifax, NS
Salary: expected $80,458 to $98,337. Final base salary is determined by the successful candidate’s skills and experience and internal equity, and is presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
Description In this role, you will:
Carry out testing, acceptance, and maintenance of Victoria Class Submarine (VCS) systems and equipment.
Act as Test Director, coordinating multi-disciplinary teams in the execution of complex submarine testing activities.
Diagnose faults, troubleshoot issues, and perform corrective maintenance to ensure system readiness and reliability.
Provide technical leadership and oversight to Test Specialists executing test procedures.
Resolve complex technical issues, communicating risks, solutions, and impacts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Lead small- to medium-sized teams and collaborate within a broader technical organization to deliver program objectives.
Provide mentorship for other Test Specialists.
Record defects using Babcock Canada IT and/or Government controlled systems.
Support Commissioning Managers and Field Service Lead in a dynamic shipyard waterfront environment, adapting to evolving program needs.
Draft, review, and maintain test documentation and work instructions to support commissioning, maintenance, and production activities.
Draft and review lockout/tagout (LOTO) documentation to ensure systems are safely isolated for commissioning activities, production repairs, and other requirements.
Coordinate and assist in applying lockout/tagout procedures with cross-functional representatives, including external contractors.
Utilize and develop proficiency in company-specific software systems (SAP and/or IFS) to support daily operations, maintenance, and documentation.

The ideal candidate brings:
Strong technical skills with post-secondary education (degree, diploma, or certificate)



in electrical engineering technology or mechanical/electrical engineering or equivalent experience.
Eligibility for recognition as AScT, CET, EIT, or P.Eng., as applicable, in British Columbia and/or Nova Scotia.
8+ years of related technical experience.
Experience in marine, naval, submarine, or offshore oil and gas operations is an asset.
Hands-on experience operating, testing, or commissioning mechanical systems is an asset.
Ability to work safely in physically demanding environments, including climbing ladders, working at heights, and around water.
Capacity to stand or walk for extended periods and work in confined spaces.
Demonstrated dexterity to perform tasks in tight, complex environments.
Comfortable working in an industrial setting around moving equipment (e.g., forklifts, cranes).
Prefer working knowledge in a variety of mechanical and electrical technologies, including:
Mechanical: hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, internal combustion engines (diesel, turbochargers), mechanical linkages and rotating machinery, pumps, valves, actuators, motors.
Electrical/electronics: AC systems and power distribution, DC control systems, fibre optic applications, UPS and switching knowledge.
Solid communication skills (written, verbal, interpersonal).
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and general computer applications.
Eligible to obtain and maintain Canadian Secret Security Clearance and ITAR clearance.
