R.J. Burnside & Associates Limited and Neegan Burnside Ltd. are seeking a highly motivated and collaborative Intermediate Electrical Engineer – Water & Wastewater to join our Winnipeg office. This intermediate-level position is ideal for an electrical engineer with 5–7 years of experience in electrical systems design for water, wastewater, and municipal infrastructure, who enjoys solving practical infrastructure challenges and contributing to Municipal and First Nations projects from planning and design through construction. You will work with senior staff and project managers to deliver a variety of water and wastewater assignments across Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario, with opportunities to take on increasing responsibility in project coordination and client support.

What You’ll Do

- Design electrical power distribution systems for water and wastewater facilities including pump stations, treatment plants, and lift stations (medium and low voltage distribution, switchgear, metering, and lighting).
- Develop single-line diagrams (SLDs), wiring diagrams, panel schedules, motor control centre (MCC) specifications, and related electrical drawings and contract documents.
- Design and specify emergency and standby power systems including diesel generators, automatic transfer switches (ATS), and uninterruptible power supplies (UPS).
- Prepare design calculations, electrical specifications, and tender/contract documents in conformance with the Canadian Electrical Code and applicable provincial standards.
- Coordinate with civil, structural, process/mechanical, and I&C; disciplines to produce integrated, construction-ready design packages.
- Participate in field investigations, condition assessments, and as‑built surveys for existing electrical and control infrastructure.
- Provide construction-phase engineering support including shop drawing review, RFI responses,



factory acceptance testing (FAT), site acceptance testing (SAT) and commissioning support.
- Communicate effectively with clients, contractors, and regulatory authorities; support project managers in meeting scope, schedule, and budget objectives.

What You Bring

- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Manitoba – Electrical discipline, or eligible for registration; EITs close to licensure will also be considered.
- Minimum 5–7 years of progressive experience in electrical engineering design for water/wastewater, industrial, or municipal infrastructure.
- Demonstrated experience with low and medium voltage power distribution, motor control (VFDs, soft starters, MCCs), and associated protection systems.
- Experience preparing electrical design deliverables including single-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, motor schematics, MCC specifications, panel schedules, and lighting layouts.
- Working knowledge of applicable Canadian electrical standards and codes and their application to utility and municipal infrastructure.
- Strong organization and communication skills, with the ability to coordinate across disciplines and manage concurrent deliverables.
- Collaborative, team-oriented approach suited to a fast-paced, multi-project consulting environment; ability to work independently and across office locations.
- An interest to work on a variety of water/wastewater/industrial projects.

Preferred Skills and Assets





- Demonstrated experience designing electrical systems for water and wastewater facilities (pump stations, treatment plants, reservoirs, and associated infrastructure).
- Experience with instrumentation specifications and control system design for municipal water/wastewater applications (e.g., Allen‑Bradley, Siemens, Schneider platforms).
- Proficiency in electrical design software (e.g., ETAP, EasyPower, RSLogix).
- Familiarity working with Indigenous clients and communities.
- Experience with emergency power system design including generator sizing, ATS coordination, and load analysis.
- Knowledge of Manitoba Hydro interconnection standards and Manitoba regulatory requirements applicable to electrical works on utility and municipal infrastructure.
- Experience with instrumentation selection and loop design for water/wastewater applications (flow, pressure, level, and analytical instruments).
