The Burnaby Hospital redevelopment project is a multi‑phase project that will transform the hospital into a modernised medical and surgical health care campus. Phase one is slated to open in spring 2026, and phase two in 2030.

We are currently hiring for a Respiratory Therapist at Burnaby Hospital located in Burnaby, B.C.

Detailed Overview
Performs diagnostic, therapeutic, and technical functions of the Respiratory Therapy Services within Burnaby Hospital.
Responsibilities
Perform respiratory care to patients, including initiation and education of inhaled medications, breathing monitoring tools, mechanical ventilation for adult, pediatric, and infant patients as prescribed by physician
Perform diagnostic testing, initiate oxygen therapy, and assist with home oxygen therapy
Provide artificial airway care, perform non‑invasive physiological monitoring, obtain invasive arterial blood gases, and insert radial arterial lines
Perform invasive endotracheal intubation and attend cardio‑respiratory arrests
Maintain documentation on treatments, equipment settings, and patient/equipment observations
Perform cardio‑respiratory physiological measurements and calculations, both invasive and non‑invasive, as required
Ensure reports, records, and workload statistics are complete and accurate according to departmental standards
Change respiratory therapy equipment routinely in critical care areas
Perform equipment quality control, maintenance, and minor repairs and maintain documented records
Assist with in‑service education sessions on respiratory care and related equipment to nursing, medical, and other hospital personnel as required
Perform other related duties as required
Qualifications
Education and Experience
Graduation from an accredited Respiratory Therapy Program
Successful completion of the Canadian Board of Respiratory Care credentialing exam
Eligible membership with the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists (CSRT) and British Columbia Society of Respiratory Therapists (BCSRT)
Current CPR Certificate, Professional Level C
Current Neonatal Resuscitation program certification
Skills and Abilities
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
Demonstrated problem‑solving, organisational and decision‑making skills, including appropriate use of equipment, workload prioritisation, and handling crisis situations
Ability to deal effectively with others
Ability to organise and prioritise work
Physical ability to perform the duties of the position
Ability to operate related equipment
Ability to maintain knowledge of current developments in respiratory therapy by reviewing professional literature, consulting with other professionals, and actively participating in relevant educational programmes
