Nanaimo Ladysmith Public Schools (NLPS) is seeking a skilled and experienced person to join our team as a Secondary Teacher covering a temporarily (0.9285 FTE) Auto-Tech, Power Mechanics and Metal Works vacancy for one (1) semester from September 1, 2026, to January 29, 2027, or until the return of the incumbent, at Dover Bay Secondary School.

About The Role

Secondary Teachers as employees carry out educational tasks such as establishing learning standards in relation to the curricular competencies and content from BC’s Curriculum, identifying educational needs, developing educational programs or activities, providing interventions and supports for learners to succeed, and creating a learning environment that supports diversity, equity and inclusivity, modelling the .

Primary Duties And Responsibilities

Secondary school teachers perform some or all of the following duties:

- Prepare instruction of courses for presentation to students according to BC’s Curriculum.




- Teach students using a systematic plan of lessons, discussions, and experiences in and out of the classroom, which may include a multimedia instructional approach.
- Lead students in activities to promote their self-awareness of and self-assessment of core competencies: Communication, Thinking, Personal, and Social.
- Embed First Peoples Principles of Learning in instructional approach.
- Assess students according to NLPS assessment guidelines and report student progress according to NLPS Reporting Guidelines as well as Ministry reporting standards.
- Communicate student learning in on ongoing, timely and responsive manner according to NLPS reporting and assessment guidelines.
- Identify diverse needs within the classroom and provide differentiated instruction according to NLPS Inclusion Policy.
- Provide functional direction and support to Educational Assistants and Pre-Service Teachers on occasion.
- Support and participate in inquiry-based learning (PLC).
- Support the development of school plans/goals.
- Support the implementation of and the supports that follow District-wide assessments.

Required Qualifications And Experience

- Certified through the BC Teacher Regulation Branch.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education required.




- Required course load for a particular subject area at the high school level (12 UBC units, second year or greater).
- Successful classroom teacher experience and/or pre-service experience in a secondary school setting.
- Demonstrated proficiency to work collaboratively with colleagues.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain skills through skilled learning.
- Knowledge and understanding of the effects of colonization within the education system and its impact on teaching and learning in today’s schools.
- Experience integrating Indigenous perspectives into the curriculum together with practicing Indigenous ways of teaching and learning

Assignment: Temporary Contract, September 1, 2026, to January 29, 2027 (.9285 FTE) Salary: $62,657 - $113,004 per annum
