The Senior Financial Analyst, Intangible Assets Accounting, plays a key role in supporting the financial reporting and accounting activities of the Canadian Tire family of companies. This position combines deep technical accounting expertise with strong business partnership capabilities to provide guidance on complex accounting matters, support strategic Information Systems initiatives, and ensure compliance with IFRS.
The successful candidate will act as a trusted advisor to finance and business stakeholders, providing accounting guidance on intangible asset capitalization, contract assessments, and support to financial analysts.
Responsibilities
Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting in compliance with IFRS
Analyze significant variances, business trends, and key performance indicators and communicate findings to management
Support the month-end and quarter-end close processes, including review of journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting analysis
Identify financial reporting risks and proactively recommend solutions
Provide expert accounting guidance related to the capitalization and ongoing accounting for internally developed and acquired intangible assets
Provide coaching, guidance, and technical support to financial analysts and cross-functional partners
Build strong relationships across the organization and foster a collaborative, high-performing team environment
Advise business partners on financial reporting requirements, project financial reporting assistance and non-property lease arrangements
Research and interpret accounting standards and prepare accounting position papers and technical memos
Partner closely with Information Systems, Procurement and other business teams to evaluate new initiatives and projects
Translate complex accounting requirements into practical business solutions
Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls, and reporting efficiency
Lead and support process improvement initiatives involving complex financial models, data analysis, and automation opportunities
Ensure key controls and documentation are maintained to support internal control and audit requirements
Review work prepared by other team members and provide constructive feedback
Requirements
University degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline
CPA designation (or equivalent professional accounting qualification) is required
Minimum 4 years of progressive accounting experience in public accounting or a large, complex corporate environment
Strong knowledge of IFRS and financial reporting requirements
Proven ability to influence stakeholders and collaborate effectively across multiple functions
Excellent attention to detail
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Strong problem solving, analytical and strategic thinking skills
Experience preparing technical accounting analyses and accounting memos
Experience with accounting for intangible assets, technology investments, software development projects, and contractual arrangements is an asset
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and the Microsoft Office suite
Experience with PeopleSoft, HFM, or other large-scale financial systems is an asset
Familiarity with internal and external audit processes is an asset
Advantages
Broadband salary range: $64,000 - $106,000; typical hiring range $85,000 - $95,000
