Summary
The Maintenance Planner is responsible for planning, scheduling, and coordinating all preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities to maximize equipment reliability, asset availability, and maintenance workforce productivity. Working closely with Maintenance Supervisors, Operations, and Maintenance Technicians, the Maintenance Planner develops job plans, manages maintenance schedules, maintains CMMS data integrity, and supports continuous improvement initiatives that reduce downtime and improve equipment performance.
Job Duties And Responsibilities
Develop detailed maintenance job plans for preventive, predictive, corrective, and shutdown maintenance activities
Prepare labor estimates, task sequences, required skill requirements, tools, permits, and resource requirements for maintenance work orders
Build and maintain weekly and daily maintenance schedules in collaboration with Maintenance Supervisors and Operations
Facilitate weekly maintenance planning and scheduling meetings
Monitor schedule compliance and reschedule incomplete work as required
Prioritize maintenance work orders based on safety, production impact, reliability, and asset criticality
Coordinate maintenance activities to minimize production disruptions and maximize equipment availability
Prepare maintenance schedules for plant shutdowns, outages, and major maintenance events
Adjust schedules to accommodate emergency maintenance activities while minimizing disruption to planned work
Develop, implement, and continuously improve preventive maintenance programs for plant equipment and systems
Review and optimize PM frequencies based on equipment history, manufacturer recommendations, failure analysis, and operational requirements
Ensure PM work orders, checklists, procedures, and task instructions remain accurate and effective
Monitor PM compliance and completion rates and drive corrective actions when targets are not achieved
Identify opportunities to transition from reactive to preventive and predictive maintenance strategies
Support predictive maintenance programs including vibration analysis, thermography, oil analysis, and other reliability initiatives where applicable
Utilize the CMMS to plan, schedule, track, and document maintenance activities
Maintain accuracy and integrity of equipment records, asset hierarchies, bill of materials, maintenance plans, and equipment history
Create and manage maintenance work orders, PM tasks, and maintenance procedures within the CMMS
Review completed work orders to ensure accurate failure coding, labor reporting, and maintenance history documentation
Generate and analyze CMMS reports to support maintenance performance measurement and decision-making
Analyze equipment failures and maintenance trends to identify improvement opportunities
Support root cause failure analysis (RCFA) and corrective action implementation
Track and report key maintenance performance indicators
Support reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) and continuous improvement initiatives
Recommend maintenance strategy improvements that enhance equipment reliability and reduce maintenance costs
Serve as the primary liaison between Maintenance and Production for planned maintenance activities
Coordinate maintenance work with internal departments, contractors, and service providers
Ensure all necessary permits, documentation, drawings, SOPs, and safety requirements are prepared prior to work execution
Organize and maintain technical drawings, equipment manuals, maintenance procedures, and planning documentation
Participate in capital projects, equipment installations, upgrades, and commissioning activities
Communicate maintenance plans, schedule changes, and equipment priorities to all stakeholders
Ensure maintenance plans comply with all Health & Safety, GMP, Food Safety, Quality, Environmental, and company requirements
Incorporate appropriate safety procedures, lockout/tagout requirements, risk assessments, and permit requirements into maintenance job plans
Support audits and inspections by maintaining accurate maintenance records and documentation
Promote safe work practices and continuous improvement of maintenance processes
Develop and maintain standard job plans for recurring maintenance tasks
Maintain and optimize maintenance backlog management processes
Evaluate maintenance workload and forecast labor requirements
Support annual maintenance budgeting through labor and maintenance activity forecasting
Participate in maintenance KPI reviews and departmental performance meetings
Support implementation of new maintenance technologies and CMMS enhancements
Provide backup support for maintenance supervisory functions when required
Perform other related duties as assigned
Compensation & Benefits
Base salary: CAD $65,000 per year
