About the Role
The position focuses on research in socially responsible algorithm design and human‑centered AI, with particular emphasis on one or more of the following areas:
Algorithms for mitigating polarization in online social networks, including approaches that leverage shared interests, common ground, or constructive engagement across divisions
Human–AI ensembles, including hybrid systems where human judgment and machine intelligence are integrated to improve decision‑making
Other proposals in related area welcome
The postdoctoral fellow is expected to conduct independent research, collaborate across disciplines, contribute to publications, and participate in the intellectual life of both the philosophy and computer science departments. The successful candidate may also, where appropriate, supervise undergraduate and master’s student research projects.
Grant applications are strongly encouraged,
and the fellow will be supported in developing independent funding opportunities.
Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.
The position will be jointly hosted in the philosophy and computer science departments. A co‑supervisor may be arranged depending on the successful candidate’s research focus.

Required Qualifications
PhD in Computer Science, Philosophy, or a closely related field obtained expected by the start date and expected within 5 years
Technical background (e.g., machine learning, recommendation algorithms, network science, or related areas)
Demonstrated interest or background in philosophical, ethical, or societal aspects of computing
Ability to work in an interdisciplinary setting
