Marine Systems Specialist - Mechanical
Location: Victoria, British Columbia, CA, V8Z 0B9
Employment type: Permanent (Onsite or Hybrid)
Expected Salary: $70,340 to $85,971
Role Overview
In this role you will contribute to the successful delivery of technical deliverables and support submarine mechanical systems in a shipyard setting.
Responsibilities
Report directly to the Waterfront Engineering Marine Systems Team Lead and contribute to the delivery of technical deliverables.
Prepare deviations and waivers for submarine mechanical equipment.
Draft and review repair specifications for submarine maintenance activities.
Draft and review manufacturing drawings for the fabrication of components and assemblies.
Assess, document, and communicate risks associated with submarine engineering systems to internal and external customers.
Respond to Project Managers for dynamic program delivery requirements in a shipyard environment.
Provide oversight on complex fault diagnostic activities and system operations.
Identify risks, impacts, mitigations, and opportunities.
Qualifications
Accredited post‑secondary education in mechanical engineering or related discipline (Diploma/Certificate or higher).
Eligibility or current registration with a provincial professional governing body (Engineers and Geoscientists BC or Applied Scientists Technologists and Technicians BC as an Engineer‑in‑Training, Graduate Technologist, or currently eligible).
4+ years of experience in design or maintenance of marine systems such as hydraulics, high‑pressure air, diesel, and propulsion systems – submarine experience desirable.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office suite.
Drafting experience with AutoDesk and Dassault Systems products.
Attention to detail and experience with tasks requiring it.
Experience working in a shipyard and knowledge of shipyard safe work practices.
Physical ability to climb, descend ladders and stairs, walk/stand for extended periods, work in confined spaces, operate at heights and around water, and work in an industrial environment with moving equipment.
Eligible for Canadian Secret Security and ITAR clearance.
