Are you an experienced Marine Structural Engineer looking to progress your career? We’re looking for a Senior Marine Structural Engineer to join our growing team. We are open to filling this position in any of our Atlantic Canada offices including Fredericton, Moncton, Saint John, Grand Falls, Bathurst, Halifax or St. Johns.
At GEMTEC, we offer something different. We’re an employee-owned, 400‑person multidisciplinary consulting firm—not too big, not too small. We’re large enough to compete head‑to‑head with publicly traded engineering giants, but still small enough to maintain the culture and flexibility of a close‑knit team.
Our size and hands‑on management style let us move quickly, embrace new opportunities, and empower our people to shape their own careers—without getting lost in corporate bureaucracy.
A typical day on the job might look like: Providing engineering designs for civil infrastructure projects (ports, harbours and bridges)
Working with diverse teams of discipline managers, engineers, designers and technicians
Managing projects and being responsible for completion on schedule and financial performance
Acting as a technical resource and as a mentor to junior/intermediate staff
Writing, compiling and reviewing technical reports
Preparing fee proposals
Being a member of site visit teams, gathering information as required to complement design activities
Maintaining quality throughout a project and implementing improvements when determined
Preparing regular project summary reports
Encouraging growth within the group and increasing the general knowledge base throughout the company

Developing and sustaining long‑lasting business relationships with clients
Identifying and mitigating potential hazards in the field or onsite, promoting a safe working environment
The good stuff you get: Full time permanent salaried position
Employee owned company with future potential to be a shareholder
Year end profit sharing bonus
Health and dental benefits
Matching RRSP employer contributions up to 5%
Paid time off (vacation starting at 3 weeks per year and 2 weeks of sick time)
Office year‑end closure (paid time off between Christmas and New Years)
Work/life balance including a 37.5 hour work week and flexible working arrangements including hybrid options
Growth and development opportunities as we work on a large variety of projects so you can build your skills and experience
Your qualifications and what you bring: Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an accredited university
Minimum of 12 years of experience in civil engineering including specific expertise in marine structures
Adaptability to represent GEMTEC professionally with clients, developers or contractors
Robust written and verbal communication skills needed to convey technical ideas clearly
Eligibility to register or currently registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with one or more of the Atlantic provinces
Proven ability to manage projects
Ability to obtain security clearance
Valid driver’s license
Should you be selected for an interview and require accommodation of any kind, please kindly help us understand how we can help.
