We are seeking an experienced Data Engineer to support the Government of Alberta s Digital Design and Delivery (DDD) division. The successful candidate will work within multidisciplinary Agile teams to design, build, and maintain contemporary data solutions that improve data accessibility, quality, analytics, and decision-making across government services. This role is ideal for a Senior Data Engineer / Data Engineer with strong Data Analytics and BI experience, particularly in Python/PySpark, SQL, ETL/ELT, cloud data platforms, data warehousing/lakehouse architecture, and Power BI.

Key Responsibilities

- Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines and ETL/ELT solutions.

- Develop data integrations across databases, APIs, files, and cloud platforms.

- Build and optimize data warehouses, lakehouses, data models, data marts, and dimensional models.

- Develop solutions using Python, PySpark, SQL, Azure, Databricks, and Microsoft Fabric.

- Create and maintain Power BI dashboards, reports, KPIs, and DAX measures.

- Support data migration, modernization, data quality, validation, governance, and security.

- Implement CI/CD, automated testing, monitoring, and deployment practices for data solutions.

- Analyze complex datasets and translate findings into actionable business insights.

- Collaborate with business stakeholders, architects, developers, and multidisciplinary Agile teams.





- Support predictive/descriptive analytics and AI-enabled data solutions.

Must-Haves

- 5+ years of experience as a Data Engineer and/or Data Analyst.

- 5+ years of hands-on experience with Python (including PySpark) and SQL.

- 4+ years of experience designing and implementing ETL/ELT processes and tools.

- 4+ years of experience with Cloud or Hybrid Data Platforms.

- 4+ years of experience with Data Warehouse and/or Lakehouse Design.

- 4+ years of experience with Business Intelligence and Executive Reporting, including dashboards.

- 2+ years of experience in Data Migration and Modernization.

- Strong experience with data modelling, data pipelines, data integration, and enterprise data solutions.

- Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.

Nice-to-Haves

- Experience with Microsoft Fabric, Databricks, Azure Data Factory, SSIS, or other modern data technologies.

- 2+ years of experience with DevOps, CI/CD, and Infrastructure as Code.

- Experience using AI-assisted development tools and AI-enabled data practices.

- Experience with Power BI, DAX, Python/R-based analytics, and machine learning.

- 2+ years supporting enterprise-scale public-sector or government environments.

- Experience working in Agile, multidisciplinary teams.

- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex data insights to non-technical stakeholders.
