CSG Talent is working with an established Canadian mining operator to recruit a Senior Tailings Engineer for one of its operating mines in British Columbia. This is a strong opportunity for a tailings engineer who wants to move closer to operations, take greater ownership of a TSF and see the direct impact of their work. The client is particularly open to engineers currently working within tailings or geotechnical consultancy who are interested in making the move to the operator side.
You don't necessarily need 10-15+ years behind you. What matters more is having gained broad experience across different aspects of tailings engineering and management.
Responsibilities will include: Supporting the secure operation and management of the site's TSFs
Tailings deposition planning, monitoring and optimisation
Supporting site water balance and mine water management
Leading and supporting TSF capital construction projects
Working closely with the Engineer of Record
Reviewing designs, technical proposals and engineering reports
Organising geotechnical investigations and laboratory testing
Supporting dam surveillance, monitoring and risk management
Maintaining and updating TSF Operation, Maintenance and Surveillance documentation
Managing contractors and external engineering resources
Supporting quality control associated with tailings construction and deposition
Managing schedules, budgets, forecasts and cost tracking
Mentoring and supporting the professional development of EITs
What We're Looking For Ideally you'll have around 5-10 years of tailings or geotechnical engineering experience, although the breadth and quality of that experience is more important than simply the number of years. Your experience could have been gained with either a mining company or engineering consultancy.
We're particularly interested in people who have gained exposure across several areas of tailings, rather than focusing on one narrow discipline.
This could include: Tailings Storage Facility design or management
Tailings deposition planning
Dam construction and raises
Geotechnical engineering
CQA / quality control
Water balance or mine water management
TSF monitoring and surveillance
Working with mine operators and Engineers of Record
Project and contractor management
You'll also need: A degree in Civil, Geotechnical, Mining or a related Engineering discipline
P.Eng. designation or eligibility to register/transfer with EGBC
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills The ability to work effectively with both technical teams and mine operations A valid Canadian Driver's Licence
Why Consider the Move? For someone currently working in consultancy, this is an opportunity to move from advising operators to taking direct ownership of a facility. You'll also be joining an established tailings team rather than being the only tailings specialist on site. You'll work alongside experienced leadership and the Engineer of Record while also helping develop the EITs coming through the team.
The working arrangement provides a long weekend every two weeks, as well as company transport between Williams Lake and the mine site. The position requires relocation to the Williams Lake area of British Columbia. For someone who enjoys being outdoors, the area offers extensive mountain biking and hiking trails, fishing, paddling, camping and nearby skiing.
The wider package includes: Annual short-term incentive / bonus
Strong employer pension matching
Health and wellness allowance
Company transport to and from site
Temporary accommodation support for relocation Williams Lake, BC
If you've been considering a move from tailings consultancy into an operator, or you're already working client-side and want greater ownership of a TSF, I'd be keen to speak.
