As the Senior Works Inspector, you will be responsible for completing construction estimates on local improvement projects, assisting in tender preparation, and inspecting work done by contractors. Primary duties include:
- Administer contracts and projects, which include monitoring workmanship and schedules.
- Manage local improvement activities, including completing estimates for local improvement petition requests.
- Liaise with Public Spaces Delivery Design to ensure grade sheet preparation is complete for local improvement projects.
- Respond to customer service requests and resolve front line public complaints and 311 inquiries.
- Coordinate utility clearances and perform Final Acceptance Certificates.
- Relieve for Paving Coordinator and Driveway Crossing Coordinator.
- Circulate local improvement projects to utility companies and City of Calgary departments.
Qualifications
- A completed 2 year diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or a related discipline and at least 3 years of experience in the construction industry,
including experience in contract administration.
- Must be a member of the Association of Science and Engineering Technology Professionals of Alberta (ASET).
- A valid Class 5 driver's license (or provincial equivalency) and access to a personal vehicle for business use is required.
- An intermediate level of proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint) is essential.
- The successful candidate will have a solid understanding of the basic principles of municipal construction and materials used, including asphalt technology, concrete technology, quality control, estimating, surveying, geotechnical engineering, scheduling, and project administration.
- Success in this position requires exceptional communication, planning and organizing, collaboration, and customer service skills.

Workstyle
- This position may be eligible to work from home for at least part of the time as one of several flexible work options available to City employees. These arrangements depend on the operational requirements of the role, employee suitability, and are subject to change based on operational needs and corporate direction.
Pre-employment Drug Test: An offer of employment for this position will be conditional on an applicant passing a pre-employment drug test. This test assesses for use of drugs including cannabis. Failure to pass a pre-employment drug test may prevent an applicant from being hired into any safety sensitive position for a period of up to twelve months.
