Full-Time Server — Ugly Duckling Dining & Provisions

Ugly Duckling is looking for a full-time server to join our front-of-house team.

We are a small, ambitious tasting-menu restaurant in Victoria’s Chinatown, built around the idea that dining out can still feel magical: thoughtful, generous, deeply personal, and a little unexpected. We care about food, wine, service, and storytelling — but most of all, we care about how guests feel when they leave.

The single most important quality we are looking for is someone who understands the spirit of unreasonable hospitality: the belief that great service is not simply about meeting expectations, but about noticing people, anticipating needs, creating moments, and taking genuine pleasure in making someone’s night better than they imagined.

This is not a role for someone who sees serving as order-taking. It is a role for someone who finds meaning in care, precision, warmth, and detail.

The role

You will be part of a small service team delivering a multi-course tasting menu experience. Responsibilities include:

- Guiding guests through the tasting menu with confidence, warmth, and polish
- Supporting wine, cocktail, and non-alcoholic pairings
- Reading the room and adapting service style to each table
- Maintaining detailed knowledge of menu, ingredients, allergens, and dietary accommodations




- Helping create a dining experience that feels personal, generous, and memorable
- Supporting the broader team with setup, breakdown, polishing, cleaning, and service flow

We are looking for someone who:
- Is genuinely motivated by hospitality and guest care
- Has strong emotional intelligence and a natural sense of timing
- Communicates clearly, warmly, and professionally
- Is detail-oriented without being stiff
- Works well in a small, team-oriented team
- Is curious about food, wine, restaurants, and the craft of service
- Can maintain grace, focus, and composure during busy services
- Has previous serving experience, ideally in a fine dining, tasting menu, wine-focused, or chef-driven restaurant environment

The details This is a full-time position, primarily evening service. Weekend availability is required. Compensation will be competitive and based on experience, with pooled gratuities.
