ARET 1602 Structural Technology 1 (3,3,0)
Credits: 6 credits
Delivery: Campus
This course introduces students to the fundamental concepts of structural technology. Topics include force, friction, moment, equilibrium, frames, static structures, circular motion, easy machines, energy, stress, strain, safety criteria, vibration, and some fluid properties. This course is available in the Fall semester only.
The sessional instructor will be responsible for the lectures and one section of the seminar for this class. Class time is six hours per week. The instructor must also be available at predetermined times during the week to answer student questions outside of the scheduled class times. Marking of all seminar assignments, quizzes and exams for the course, as well as periodic meetings with other ARET faculty is also required.
The successful candidate will be a civil or building technologist, intern architect, architect, engineer in training or engineer with experience in the design of building structures. Some teaching experience or teaching assistant experience would be an asset.
