The Faculty of Education at the University of Prince Edward Island has openings for sessional instructors to teach the following courses in the fall 2026 semester. The offering of each course listed is conditional pending final enrolment numbers.
All positions are subject to final budgetary and administrative approval.
ED-4560-2/4 Intermediate Senior Social Studies
This course promotes dynamic teaching methods and inclusive approaches to inspire learners in grades 7-12 and to elevate the quality of teaching and learning through Social Studies at the Intermediate/Senior levels. Grounded in the needs of twenty-first-century learners, this course offers concrete ways to create more vibrant, engaging, playful, supportive, and inviting environments for this core curriculum area to give all learners dignity and honour their diverse ways of learning.
This course is offered on campus to intermediate/secondary students in our Bachelor of Education and Bachelor of Education (français langue seconde) program.
The course will be taught Tuesdays and Thursdays, 1:00 pm to 3:45 pm, from September 10 to October 14, 2026.
ED-4962-82 Practicum 1
Students will complete a 9-week teaching placement in a PEI public school with the guidance of a practicum Faculty advisor and a host mentor teacher. Students undertake planning and teaching effective lessons, develop personal classroom management strategies, and use strategies from methods courses to facilitate and assess student learning. Feedback from the host mentor teacher and faculty advisor will inform self- assessment and personal skilled growth.
This course primarily involves in-school supervision of up to ten pre-service teachers as well as 3-4 meetings with groups of students during the semester.
This course is offered from October 15 to December 18, 2027.
(Preference will be given to applicants with teaching experience in math and science at the intermediate/senior level).
Note: The public school system requires that all instructors possess a clean and valid criminal record check.
ED-6240-99 Change: Leadership in Learning In this course, students examine the research on models of innovation and change that have had an impact on education over the last 30 years. Students explore the role of leadership in facilitating change in education.
This course is offered online to students in our Master of Education in Leadership in Learning program, September 8 to December 18, 2026.
Qualifications:
Ideal candidates will have a Master of Education or equivalent degree. Successful candidates will normally have school-based experience in a Canadian public K-12 system. For applicants without school-based experience, teaching in other contexts relevant and appropriate to the position will be considered. Applicants should have experience in teaching, research, or practice related to the course content.
Instructors teaching online courses are expected to have sufficient internet bandwidth and technology available to deliver the course online.
Qualified candidates with seniority on the UPEI Faculty of Education’s Sessional Roster and the Faculty’s full-time and term contract faculty members will be given priority.
