The Lit Gala is a Toronto-based not-for-profit organization reimagining Diwali through culture, connection, and charitable impact. Each year, it hosts an elegant Diwali gala that brings together a diverse community of cultural philanthropists, professionals, and changemakers. The event has become a must-attend occasion on Toronto’s social calendar, attracting over 400 guests annually and raising more than $295,000 to date for causes focused on education, empowerment, poverty alleviation, and community development.
Role Description:
The Volunteer Social Media Lead will oversee The Lit Gala’s social media presence, ensuring consistent, engaging, and mission-aligned content across platforms. This remote volunteer role includes planning and executing social media campaigns, developing content calendars, and coordinating posts before, during, and after the annual gala and related initiatives. Day-to-day responsibilities involve creating and editing social media copy and visuals (in collaboration with the exec team where applicable), monitoring engagement, optimizing content performance, and responding to comments and messages in a timely, professional manner.
The Social Media
Lead will collaborate closely with the exec team to amplify key messages, highlight partner organizations, and grow the online community. This role is ideal for someone passionate about culture, philanthropy, and digital storytelling who can commit time consistently in the months leading up to the gala and during peak campaign periods.
Qualifications
- Ability to develop and execute Content Strategy tailored to different platforms, audiences, and campaign goals.
- Excellent Communication and Writing skills, with the ability to craft clear, compelling, and culturally sensitive content.
- Experience managing social media for events, nonprofits, or community initiatives is an asset.
- Familiarity with major social platforms (e.g., Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok) and social media management tools.
- Creativity, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently in a remote, cooperative environment.
- Interest in culture, philanthropy, and community impact; experience with Toronto’s nonprofit or events landscape is beneficial.
