Salary Details The salary range for this position is CAD $38.90/Hr. - CAD $55.92/Hr.
Job Summary Come work as a Sustainability Consultant with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH)!
Responsible for developing, implementing and evaluating various sustainability initiatives for the Provincial Health Services Authority, Fraser Health Authority, Vancouver Coastal Health Authority and Providence Health Care consistent with the sustainability goals, policies and mandate. This includes strategic communications and engagement with internal and external partners to develop and operationalize initiatives/projects in the sustainable materials focus area utilizing project and change management principles to support waste reduction and reuse. Provides leadership and mentors/coaches assigned project staff.

As a Sustainability Consultant with Vancouver Coastal Health you will:
Develop, coordinate, implement and evaluate new sustainability projects/initiatives for the organizations based on by scheduling project activities, creating project teams and consulting with internal and external partners to identify scope of project and determine potential impact across the health authority.
Review existing sustainability initiatives to ensure initiatives are consistent with sustainability goals, policies and mandate; identifies gaps and/or areas of improvement for the initiative by assessing project outcomes, gathering statistical data, conducting surveys and comparing outcomes to evidence-based industry best practice; recommends corrective action where required to ensure sustainability target outcomes are consistently met and staff incorporate sustainability principles and practice into their daily activities.
Consult with various user departments to identify and determine sustainability needs; creates project teams to review, examine and develop plan to operationalize a sustainability framework using project and change management principles.
Track, monitor and report on progress from idea to project implementation including monitoring project expenditures, managing project timelines and milestones, and arranging project team responsibilities to ensure the initiative is moving forward based on established project deadlines and budget allocation; recommends corrective action to the Director Environmental Sustainability in case the project/initiative is not meeting with projected timelines and/or budget expenditure.
Develop various metrics for sustainability including use of metrics to measure successes and secure environmental certification, awards, promotion or recognition for sustainability achievement.
Collaborate with other Energy and Environmental staff to coordinate various sustainability initiatives with the organization and share information to ensure all impacted staff are working toward a common sustainability goal, consistent within the organization’s overall sustainability objectives.
Recruit, orient, train and support staff and volunteers to engage in and encourage internal stakeholders to participate in more environmentally friendly practices.
Monitor/evaluate the success of the program/initiatives on a regular basis and conducts program planning in response to environmental, regulatory and/or policy revisions; produces an annual report highlighting and documenting various program/initiatives and reports back to key stakeholders for review and comments.
Organize staff engagement and education events on sustainability initiatives for roll out across the organization; works with other staff and/or volunteers to promote such events and develop applicable media and/or campaign materials such as campaign tool-kits or posters.
Carry out responsibilities in accordance with health and safety requirements.
Immediately reports unsafe situations by notifying supervisor or other appropriate personnel
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications Education & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Resource Management, Business, Marketing or related discipline, plus an applicable certificate such as Change Management or Facilitation, LEED Green Associate, supplemented with three (3) to five (5) years' recent, related experience developing and implementing environmental programs in a large complex organization, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Valid BC Driver's license and access to a personal vehicle for business-related purposes.
Knowledge & Abilities

Demonstrated ability to operate related equipment including applicable software applications.
Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
Closing Statement Preference for expertise in waste reduction and reuse. As per Ministry of Health policy, all health care workers working in publicly-funded health care facilities are required to report their past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections. Collecting these records will allow for offering of any missing vaccines, and for appropriate actions to be taken in the event of any future exposure to a communicable disease or during outbreaks. For all new hires and appointments to Vancouver Coastal Health, you will be asked to provide this information as part of the onboarding process.
