Position Summary The Senior Child and Youth Care Practitioner (CYCP) works under the direction of the Superintendent of Special Education and Learning Services and the General Manager of Clinical Services to provide clinical leadership, consultation and capacity building in the Child and Youth Care Department. The Senior CYCP assists with the coordination of services by Child and Youth Care Practitioners, under the direction of the Family of Schools Superintendent and in conjunction with staff from Special Education and Learning Services.
RESPONSIBILITIES (but Not Limited To) Provide clinical leadership to Child and Youth Care Practitioners working toward the realization of the Vision of the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board
Support a model of school-based CYC practice that is aligned with the values of the Catholic Board Improvement Learning Cycle




Respond to direction from the Board and the Special Education and Learning Services Department by recommending long-term learning goals for the CYC Department to the Superintendent
Liaise with Chiefs of Service, under the direction of the General Manager of Clinical Services and Special Education, to coordinate supports, implement directions and develop collective strategies for the Support Services disciplines
Liaise with Supervisory Officers or designates, Principals and CYCPs to promote effective school-based supports for children and youth
Provide case consultation to CYCPs
Assist the General Manager/Superintendent to provide orientation activities for new and returning CYCPs
Facilitate a professional learning community of CYCPs for the purposes of sharing and peer engagement
Establish, implement and support standards of practice for CYCPs
In consultation with the General Manager/Superintendent, assist or provide continuous development opportunities for CYCPs related to their role
Respond to emerging needs within the Families of Schools by providing resources, consultation and capacity building, for example supports for equity seeking groups and the developmental needs of diverse learners
Advocate within the Board and in the community on behalf of students with needs in the areas of learning, social/emotional development, self-regulation and mental health, and equity‑seeking groups
Collaborate with community agencies and organizations to facilitate supports and interventions for students, as assigned




Prepare caseload summaries and reports regarding CYC practice for sharing with the General Manager and Supervisory Officers
Acquire and manage evidence informed CYC resource materials and maintain physical and electronic professional materials in the CYC library
Under the direction of the General Manager, recommend resource expenditures to support department learning.
Education/Qualifications Membership in the Ontario Association of Child and Youth Care
Master’s Degree in Child and Youth Care (or related field of study) preferred
Bachelor’s Degree in Child and Youth Care
Skills/Experience/Other Minimum 3 years of experience in Child and Youth Care within an educational context
Experience providing direct, evidence-based services to children and youth with social, developmental and mental health challenges
Experience delivering learning opportunities for Support Services Personnel
Experience in clinical leadership and mentorship of CYCPs
