Lighting & Traffic Signal Engineer to join our Transportation team based in The successful candidate will contribute to the planning, design, and delivery of roadway lighting and traffic signal projects for municipal and provincial transportation clients, including projects delivered in accordance with Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO) standards . This role is suited to an engineer who is capable of independently completing assigned design tasks, collaborating within multidisciplinary teams, and providing guidance to junior staff while working under the direction of senior engineers and project managers. Prepare roadway lighting and traffic signal designs, including layouts, wiring diagrams, electrical details, and contract drawings.
Perform photometric analyses, voltage drop calculations, and other electrical design calculations. Prepare technical specifications, quantity take-offs, cost estimates, and contract documentation.
Ontario
Ministry of Transportation (MTO) standards and applicable industry codes to the design of roadway lighting and traffic signal systems. Independently complete assigned design packages and engineering tasks while meeting project schedules, budgets, and quality requirements. Identify technical issues,
evaluate design alternatives, and recommend practical engineering solutions using established engineering principles.
Review design calculations, drawings, and other engineering deliverables for technical accuracy, completeness, and compliance with project requirements. Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, clients, utility companies, and external stakeholders throughout project delivery. Conduct site visits, field investigations, and provide engineering support during construction as required.
Identify discrepancies or technical issues and work with the project team to develop appropriate solutions. Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers, engineering graduates, and designers. Follow AECOM's quality management procedures, standards, and project delivery processes.
Perform work under the general direction of senior engineers and project managers while exercising sound engineering judgement on assigned tasks. Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering plus 4 years of relevant experience in roadway lighting and traffic signal engineering, or demonstrated equivalency of education and experience. licensed in Ontario with a minimum of one (1) year of post-licensure experience. Demonstrated experience in the design of roadway lighting and traffic signal systems.
Working knowledge of Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO) design standards (mandatory). Proficiency with AutoCAD.
Valid
Ontario driver's licence and willingness to travel to project sites as required.
Experience delivering municipal and/or MTO transportation projects.
Experience with AGi32, AutoLUX, or other roadway lighting analysis software.
Experience preparing electrical specifications, quantity take-offs, and cost estimates.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications. Sponsorship & Relocation Information Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
