SUBSTITUTE TEACHERS – Grades 7 to 12 – All Subjects
Are you a certified teacher, living in Edmonton or the surrounding area, and looking for day-to-day substitute work at a single site school? If yes, apply for our guest teacher roster. STEM Collegiate pays our Guest Teachers (i.e., substitutes) $300 per day for full-day jobs (8:15 to 3:10pm) and offers a welcoming environment with approximately 25 students in each class.
ABOUT US
STEM Collegiate is a public charter school in Edmonton that has been designed from the ground up as a centre of STEM learning and innovation for students in grades 7-11. From the content of our courses to the leading-edge equipment in our labs, we develop higher level thinking skills by connecting classroom learning to the real world. STEM Collegiates collaborative team of learners and leaders is building a community that engages students in real-world problem-solving and prepares them to pursue rewarding post-secondary education and career pathways with the skills and experience they need to build fulfilling lives and rewarding careers.

POSITION INFORMATION
- AM jobs: 8:15am to 11:30am - $150
- PM jobs: 11:55am to 3:10pm - $150
- Full Day jobs: 8:15am to 3:10pm - $300
- Grade 7 to 12, any subject
- School population of approximately 500 students across Grades 7 to 12
Education and Credentials
- Valid Alberta Teaching Certificate
- Bachelor of Education Degree or equivalent recognized by Alberta Education
Demonstrated Skills and Competencies
- Strong background or interest/appreciation in STEM based education: Possesses an understanding of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) subjects, with the ability to effectively teach and engage grade 7-12 students in these areas as well as English Language Arts, Social Studies, Health and PE as required.
- Flexibility and Adaptability: Demonstrates the capacity to adapt quickly to changing circumstances, curriculum, and student needs, ensuring a seamless transition in the absence of the regular teacher.
- Classroom Management Skills: Exhibits excellent classroom management abilities, maintaining a positive, calm, and structured learning environment where students are engaged, respectful, and focused on their studies.
- Effective Communication: Possesses exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, enabling clear and concise delivery of instructions, explanations, and feedback to students, colleagues, and parents/guardians.
- Organization and Planning: Displays strong organizational skills in teaching the lessons as provided, managing and maintaining accurate records, ensuring smooth continuity of instruction during the teacher's absence.
- Problem-Solving Orientation: Shows a proactive approach to solving challenges that may arise in the classroom, such as addressing student conflicts, adapting lessons to different learning styles, and fostering a positive atmosphere for learning.
- Empathy and Relationship Building: Exhibits a genuine care for students' well-being, creating a supportive setting where students feel valued, encouraged, motivated to learn and participate in meaningful ways.
Salary
- $300 Full Day: 8:15am to 3:10pm
- $150 Half-Day Morning: 8:15am to 11:30am
- $150 Half Day Afternoon: 11:55am to 3:10pm
