Forestry and Parks is responsible for managing our forests, public lands and provincial parks. Our Ministry accountabilities include:
Growing Alberta’s environmentally responsible wood products and forestry sector.
Protecting Alberta’s forests from wildfire.
Preserving our provincial parks for the recreation and enjoyment of Albertans.
Enabling access to public lands for recreation and purposes while prioritizing conservation.
Managing public lands and balancing sustainable rangelands and grazing leases for Alberta producers.
Within the Ministry, Land Operations Division, delivers an integrated approach to the management of provincial Crown Land. The work of the Division reflects the full range of users of the province’s Crown land including conservation, recreation, tourism, energy, forestry, agriculture and traditional land uses.

Reporting to Lands Operations, the Senior Manager provides strategic and operational leadership to the Crown Title, Sales & Assignments Unit. The role leads a multidisciplinary team of legal and technical professionals responsible for complex Crown land administration and works closely with Lands-North and Lands-South field teams. The successful candidate will ensure effective, consistent, and compliant management of Crown land interests while balancing environmental, social, economic, and regulatory priorities. This position requires robust legislative knowledge, sound judgment, collaborative leadership, and the ability to navigate complexity and drive positive change.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Lead the review, approval, and administration of public land programs and resources.
Develop and implement policies, procedures, standards, and automated business processes.
Ensure programs comply with legislation, policies, service standards, and legislated timelines.
Make statutory and delegated decisions related to public land allocation and administration.
Provide leadership, coaching, training, performance management, and workload direction to staff.
Manage Unit budgets, resources, recruitment, succession planning, and operational priorities.
Prepare and review briefing materials, advisory notes, and recommendations for senior leadership and the Minister.
Lead stakeholder engagement, consultation, public disclosure, and information sessions.
Build strategic partnerships across ministries, regulators, industry, municipalities, and stakeholder groups.
Identify and resolve complex issues, conflicts, risks, and competing stakeholder interests.
Lead cross-regional committees, working groups, and integrated resource management initiatives.
Promote consistent, transparent, equitable, and defensible public land decision-making.

Qualifications
A completed four (4) years university degree in natural sciences or a related field, such as Administrative Law, Property Law, Environmental Law, Business Administration, Commerce, or Environmental Sciences, along with a background in resource management and a minimum of six (6) years of directly related management-level experience.
Equivalencies may be considered on a one-for-one basis.

Assets

Experience working with government agencies, municipalities, industry, and stakeholder organizations.
Experience leading committees, projects, or cross-ministry initiatives.
The position is based in Edmonton.
Monday – Friday, 7.25 hours per day / 36.25 hours per week.
