Position Summary
CP Services is seeking a motivated, safety-focused Journeyman Electrician to join the Non-Process Infrastructure (NPI) Team at the Cenovus Christina Lake South (CLS) facility. This position supports the maintenance, reliability, inspection, testing, installation, and repair of critical infrastructure systems that support site operations, camp facilities, buildings, utilities, and essential services across the CLS site.
Roles & Responsibilities
Perform inspection, testing, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems and equipment throughout the Cenovus Christina Lake South facility.
Conduct routine generator testing, inspections, preventative maintenance, and corrective repairs.
Perform fire pump inspections and testing in accordance with site and regulatory requirements.
Execute fire alarm system inspections, testing, troubleshooting, and repairs.
Maintain and repair camp, office, and support facility electrical systems, including lighting, receptacles, kitchen appliances, and small facility improvement projects.
Support the operation and maintenance of lift stations, potable water systems, wastewater treatment facilities, and related infrastructure.
Install, troubleshoot, repair, and commission of VFDs, motor control systems, and electrical controls.
Perform motor replacement, alignment, testing, and commissioning activities.
Install, maintain,
and troubleshoot heat tracing systems and associated controls.
Support Building Management Systems (BMS) and facility automation systems.
Install and maintain temporary power systems, trailer hookups, and standby power equipment.
Troubleshoot and repair light towers and portable electrical equipment.
Read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, blueprints, specifications, and technical manuals.
Establish routine SAP work order reviews to monitor scheduling, material readiness, safety-sensitive and constrained work, and work order completion.
Work closely with supervisors, planners, and technicians to ensure accurate and timely work order updates, documentation, and closures.
Promote a strong safety culture and maintain a commitment to operational excellence and reliability.
PPE Requirements
All Electrician Journeyman personnel are required to wear and maintain the following personal protective equipment (PPE) while on site:
CSA-approved steel-toe safety boots
Hard hat (CSA-approved)
High-visibility vest or clothing
Insulating and protective gloves suitable for electrical work
Safety glasses or goggles
Hearing protection in designated high-noise areas
Flame-resistant (FR) clothing for areas with potential electrical arcs
Fall protection equipment (harness, lanyard, anchorage) when working at heights
Arc flash PPE (as required for high-voltage work)
CP Services provides all required PPE and ensures personnel are trained in its proper use and maintenance in accordance with Alberta OHS legislation and site-specific requirements.
Work Environment
The Electrician Journeyman role is based on industrial oil and gas worksites, which may include:
Remote or rotational camp environments
Confined spaces (electrical rooms, equipment enclosures)
Elevated work areas requiring fall protection
Exposure to high-voltage equipment, heat, noise, dust, and chemical agents
Outdoor conditions including extreme weather and variable temperatures
All personnel are expected to follow site-specific safety protocols, participate in required safety orientations, and maintain compliance with all Alberta OHS regulations. CP Services prioritizes a safe working environment and ensures employees have the necessary training, supervision, and equipment to perform their duties safely.
Please note the successful candidate will be required to pass a drug and alcohol, fit for work exam, Respiratory Fitness Test, Mask Fit Test, provided by C.P. Services.
Applicants must already hold the following certifications to be eligible for this position. If the successful candidate does not already possess these certifications, they will be required to obtain them at their own expense prior to commencing work.
General Certifications Required
