CONTROLLERThis is a senior accounting leadership role for a hands‐on Controller who can balance technical depth with practical execution. The position is responsible for ensuring the accuracy of financial reporting, strengthening the month‐end close and control environment, and providing explicit financial insight to support decision making. Working closely with the Vice President, Finance, this role leads consolidated reporting, supports planning cycles, and plays a key role in improving finance processes and systems, including ERP related initiatives.Key ResponsibilitiesStrategic Leadership and Financial InsightPartner with the Vice President, Finance to support financial analysis and build business cases for strategic initiatives when requiredAssist with the annual budgeting and rolling forecast process by supplying historical financial data, cost centre reporting, and variance explanations, and flagging key risks or issuesPrepare consolidated monthly financial statements including balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow, along with all required supporting reconciliationsDeliver month over month and budget to actual variance analysis with clear, concise commentary for leadership reviewProduce monthly lender reporting packages that are complete, accurate, and aligned with covenant requirementsBuild and maintain KPI dashboards, including Power BI based reporting, to improve visibility into financial and operational performanceCompile the monthly reporting package for review by the Vice President, Finance, ensuring consistency and accuracy of all dataProvide supporting financial analysis and schedules for board reporting materials prepared by the Vice President, FinanceAct as accounting subject matter expert on cross functional finance and systems initiatives, ensuring integrity of data flows across inventory, costing, AP, AR, and GLSupport banking activities including daily operations, credit facility administration, and covenant reporting in collaboration with the Vice President, FinanceUse systems such as Sage 300, NetSuite, ADP, and Power BI to support accurate financial operations and reportingContribute to continuous improvement of accounting processes, internal controls, and reporting efficiency with a focus on automation and accuracySupport ERP transition activities from Sage 300 to NetSuite, particularly in relation to close processes, controls, and reconciliations, under the direction of the Vice President,
FinanceEnhance recurring financial reports and dashboards in collaboration with finance and business stakeholdersFinancial Operations and Close ManagementMaintain a strong understanding of the general ledger structure and ensure financial reporting across all entities is complete, accurate, and compliantManage the month end close process to ensure completion by financial day 3 for all reconciliations, accruals, intercompany entries, and adjustments, with full review completed by financial day 5Act as a hands‐on leader during close activities, working directly in the ledger to review entries, resolve issues, and support the team in meeting deadlines and quality standardsReview general ledger postings, journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations to ensure compliance with accounting standardsOversee intercompany accounting, eliminations, and foreign exchange translation to ensure accurate consolidated reportingManage external audit and tax relationships, including preparation and coordination of year end documentation and support schedulesOversee indirect tax compliance including HST, GST, PST, and US sales tax filings through Avalara, ensuring accuracy and timelinessOversee payroll activities through ADP, including processing review, GL reconciliation, statutory remittances, and year end reporting complianceReview treasury related reporting including bank reconciliations, cash positions, debt schedules, and lender reporting requirementsStrengthen internal controls by documenting, testing, and improving financial processes on an ongoing basisProvide guidance on complex or non routine transactions and ensure appropriate accounting treatment in line with applicable standardsLead or support implementation of recent systems, processes, and controls to improve scalability and accuracy across the finance functionPerform additional related responsibilities as neededTeam Leadership and DevelopmentModel organizational values and support a culture focused on collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvementProvide hands on coaching and day to day direction to the Accounting Supervisor and broader team, helping resolve technical issues and prioritize workloadMentor and develop team members to strengthen technical capability, analytical thinking,
and operational effectivenessParticipate in recruitment, onboarding, and ongoing development of accounting team members, escalating resourcing needs when requiredEstablish clear goals for the team and provide regular feedback and performance coachingChampion process improvement initiatives, including system enhancements and ERP related changesEncourage ongoing professional development and learning, including exposure to new tools, analytics, and automation capabilitiesQualificationsRequiredCPA designation7 plus years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 2 years in a Controller, Assistant Controller, or Accounting Manager role in a multi entity environmentStrong experience with consolidated financial reporting, including intercompany transactions and foreign exchange considerationsProven ability to manage a timely month end close and deliver accurate management reporting within tight deadlinesSolid understanding of budgeting and forecasting processes and ability to support FP&A with reliable actuals and variance analysisStrong knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, and audit processesExperience with ERP systems, including participation in implementation or major system upgrades, ideally Sage 300 or NetSuiteAdvanced Excel skills, with Power BI experience considered an assetDemonstrated ability to improve accounting processes and reporting efficiencyExperience leading and developing accounting teams while remaining actively involved in operational workStrong communication and analytical skills with the ability to explain financial results to non financial stakeholdersAbility to manage multiple priorities and deliver accurate results in a fast paced environmentPreferredExperience in inventory heavy industries such as distribution, wholesale, or retailExposure to lender reporting and banking relationshipsExperience with ADP payroll administration and Canadian payroll complianceExperience supporting ERP implementations and inventory or costing system integrationsThis role is a strong fit for someone who enjoys taking ownership of the numbers while also building structure and clarity around how they are produced.
