The Assistant Head Nurse as the Primary Care Team Lead and a front line lead designed to support high-quality daily operations across multiple Primary Care Alberta Clinics. This role provides on-site clinical leadership, daily operations, real-time staffing adjustments and Connect Care workflows in the Family Health sites. The Primary Care Team Lead will also support patient care flow within the clinic, support education and mentorship to Medical Office Assistants, Registered Nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses. In this role, you will support onboarding/orientation, education and evaluation of nursing competencies in conjunction with the Primary Care Managers.This opportunity will also support PCA clinical initiatives and workflows, while being intuitive and adaptive to patient care needs. You will provide oversight and support in various areas of care, such as Chronic Disease Management, Women's health, seniors and mental health, prenatal care and general family health needs. Your communication style and support will be positive, foster learning, and provide daily leadership with daily huddles. All of the above will support PCA policies related to clinical standards and infection control.
Description: As an Assistant Head Nurse, you will be responsible for staff assignments, patient flow and acting as a role model, clinical resource and advocate for nursing staff. In addition to providing frontline nursing care, as required, you will take a leadership role in the promotion of quality patient care and the implementation of operational priorities. Your in-depth knowledge and skills, advanced judgment and clinical experience,
will assist in providing solutions for complex health care issues at all levels with patients, interprofessional teams, administrators and policy makers. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of PCA.

Required Qualifications: Completion of an accredited nursing education program.Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA).Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications: Minimum 5 years of experience and clinical expertise in Primary Care. Experience in leadership and staff clinical development. Thorough understanding and knowledge of quality improvement strategies and change management principles. Skilled, collaborative and full scope nursing knowledge and competency in a Family Practice setting is essential. This includes women’s health, mental health, disease prevention, health promotion and wound management. Certified Diabetes Educator and current Pap certification required. Excellent leadership and communication skills for effective and collaborative team-based care.
Preferred Qualifications: Previous full scope experience working in a Primary Care Family Health Clinic is preferred. Previous experience in leadership roles, preferable in Primary Care. Flexible, solid communication skills, team based care training and experience. Connect Care experience is preferred however training will be provided.
