Thyssen Mining is currently seeking a Corporate Safety Coordinator for a fulltime permanent position in Regina, SK. The Corporate Safety Coordinator will have expert knowledge and skills in order to generate and promote a positive health and safety culture. This represents a key role in helping control occupational risk. Responsible for ensuring that all safety legislation is adhered to and policies and practices are adopted. Help to plan, implement, monitor and review protective and preventative measures and work to minimize operational losses, occupational health problems, accidents and injuries. To manage the Occupational Health and Safety function of the business, to actively promote continuous improvement and strict adherence to company safety policy and practices to achieve industry best practice standards and performance for Thyssen Mining in its field’s of operation and ensure continuing promotion of a positive safety culture throughout the company.

Responsibilities

Preparing health and safety strategies and developing internal policy;

Carrying out risk assessments and considering how risks could be reduced;

Outlining safe operational procedures which identify and take account of all relevant hazards;

Carrying out regular site inspections to check policies and procedures are being properly implemented;

Planning practical and effective methods, both preventative and remedial, of promoting health and safety and safe working practices;

Leading in-house training efforts

Record keeping of inspections findings and producing reports that suggest improvements;

keeping records of incidents and accidents and producing statistics for managers

Keeping up to date with new legislation and maintaining a working knowledge of all Health and Safety legislation.

Liaising with regulatory bodies to ensure compliance with mandatory regulations;

Carrying out accident investigations on site and producing subsequent reports and recommendations;

Carrying out evacuation drills;

Ensuring the safe installation of equipment;

Managing and organizing the safe disposal of hazardous substances

Advising on a range of specialist areas, e.g. fire regulations, hazardous substances, noise, safeguarding machinery and occupational diseases.





Implement and monitor the Thyssen Safety Management Plan on all operating sites, including joint venture projects, shop and head office. Revise, update and change this plan as needed and as required for project specific plans with management approval.

Oversee and organize as required field based training programs, externally provided training and internal training programs.

Assist as required in regular audits of operations to ensure policy and procedures are implemented and being used, and that projects are in compliance with regulations, legislation and standard operating procedures. Report findings to line and senior management for rectification of deficiencies.

Assist & Educate site management at the projects in safety management as needed.

Assist in managing WCB claims for return to work and modified work program as required.

Assist in mobilization and implementation of new projects with regard to the training of personnel.

Assist when possible with incident investigations and ensure recommendations are communicated effectively as per Thyssen Safety Management Plan.

Assist with the monitoring and data entry of the safety database, including training records, updating employee information and procedures, at site level & headoffice as required.

Assist with the recruitment of resources as required for the safety department, both human and equipment and ensure that appropriate use is made of these resources to maximize safety, quality and profitability.

Ensure that company policies are implemented and adhered to for areas under your control and developed where appropriate to ensure consistent performance and consistent management.

Maintain your qualifications in keeping with the industry requirements,



keep abreast of developments and participate in committees as required to maintain the necessary industry contacts and information exchange.

Ensure that the accountabilities and responsibilities of subordinates is clearly communicated to those employees and that they are managed according to those accountabilities and responsibilities.

Liaise with other departments as required to fulfil the requirements of your position.

Other duties as requested by your supervisor.

Qualifications

10+ years of hands on experience in area of supervision

Minimum of five (5) years of safety related experience

Knowledge of legislative regulations, policies and codes as they apply to the mining industry

Ability to write and administer safety policies as required

Self directed with solid organizational and verbal and written communication skills

Ability to work in a team atmosphere

Detail oriented

Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Proficient with Microsoft Office (demonstration of skill will be required)

Results and action oriented

Display analytical and decision-making skills

Effective problem solving skills

Safety sensitive

Valid MSHA Trainer Blue Card as a minimum and/or CMSP designation

Knowledge of tools, equipment and materials common to the work site

Knowledge of applicable codes, standards and regulations

Knowledge of supervisory principles, practices and techniques

Demonstrated understanding of the importance of displaying and promoting a “safety first culture” of Zero Harm
