About the Role
The Senior Power BI Developer will serve as the technical heart of GroupHEALTH's BI & Data Products pillar, designing, building, and governing the reporting products and semantic models that turn raw data from WEBS, MPACS, CRM, and MIRA into trusted, actionable intelligence for leaders, plan sponsors, and employer groups. This role goes beyond development; it is a technical leadership and trusted advisor position that sets standards, mentors the team, and accelerates GroupHEALTH's journey toward a data driven culture. Through deep expertise in Power BI, Microsoft Fabric, and semantic modelling, the Senior Power BI Developer will enable evidence-based decisions at every level of the organization.

This is a hybrid role based out of our Surrey, BC office, working a combination of days in office and at home.

What to Expect in Your First 3 Months
First 30 Days:

Complete a thorough assessment of the current Power BI environment, including the reporting product catalogue, semantic model quality, data governance practices, adoption rates, and reporting pain points.

Identify the top high-value enhancement opportunities and areas of duplication or manual effort to eliminate.

First 60 Days:

Define and document Power BI and Microsoft Fabric development standards covering semantic model design, DAX conventions, report UI/UX, performance optimization, and deployment practices.

Build relationships with stakeholders across Finance, Actuarial, Operations, and Sales, and produce a prioritized reporting roadmap.

First 90 Days:

Deliver a significant reporting product or major dashboard enhancement that supports a key business decision.

Establish adoption baselines for Power BI usage and self-service analytics, and standardize KPI definitions for at least one major business area within the certified semantic model.

What You'll Do
Reporting Product Development

Lead the design, development, deployment, and support of enterprise reporting and analytics products using Microsoft Power BI and Microsoft Fabric

Design executive dashboards, operational scorecards, KPI frameworks, and advanced analytical reporting solutions for GroupHEALTH's leadership and plan sponsors

Develop advanced DAX calculations, measures, calculated tables, and optimized reporting models

Ensure high standards for report performance, usability, UI/UX, accessibility, maintainability, and data quality across all reporting products

Semantic Model Governance

Design, develop,



and maintain enterprise semantic models that enable scalable and trusted self-service analytics across all GroupHEALTH business units

Own the certified Power BI dataset layer, the single trusted source that all reports across the organization consume

Partner with the Data Architect on model alignment to the Microsoft Fabric platform and enterprise data architecture

Define and enforce KPI standards, governance practices, and semantic model documentation

Reporting Product Catalogue Management

Manage the reporting product catalogue, including prioritization, lifecycle management, stakeholder alignment, and retirement of obsolete assets

Maintain a prioritized analytics product backlog aligned to organizational goals

Identify and consolidate duplicate reporting efforts and reduce manual reporting processes across the organization

Stakeholder Partnership and Adoption

Partner with business stakeholders across Finance, Actuarial, Operations, and Sales to translate objectives into reporting products

Facilitate requirements gathering workshops, stakeholder reviews, and dashboard demonstrations

Drive and monitor adoption of Power BI reporting products and data-driven decision-making practices across leadership and business teams

Promote data literacy and self-service analytics capability across business teams

Technical Leadership and Mentorship

Provide mentorship, coaching, and technical leadership to the BI Developer, Data Analysts, and reporting professionals

Establish and promote Power BI and Fabric development standards and continuous improvement initiatives

Act as the organization's trusted subject matter expert for Power BI, Microsoft Fabric, and reporting product development

Participate in agile delivery sprint planning, backlog refinement, estimation, demos, and retrospectives

Documentation and Governance

Maintain technical documentation, reporting inventories, governance artifacts, and development standards

Ensure all reporting solutions align with established KPI definitions and organizational performance measurement frameworks

Support data governance, metadata management, and data cataloguing practices in partnership with the Data Governance & MDM Analyst

What We're Looking For
Required Experience:

5+ years developing business intelligence, reporting, and analytics solutions

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Mathematics, Statistics, Business Intelligence, or a related discipline. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.

Demonstrated experience designing and maintaining enterprise semantic models

Experience working with Microsoft Fabric, Data Warehousing, Lakehouse, and modern analytics architecture

Strong experience with SQL, relational databases, star schemas, and dimensional modelling





Demonstrated experience developing executive-level dashboards and operational reporting solutions

Experience working within Agile/Scrum delivery environments

Experience mentoring technical resources and leading technical decision-making without direct authority

Demonstrated experience facilitating discussions with senior leaders and translating business requirements into technical solutions

Preferred Experience:

Experience within insurance, group benefits, financial services, or other regulated environments

Experience supporting enterprise KPI frameworks and performance management programmes

Experience with Power BI Embedded for external client portal development

Experience with wireframing tools such as Figma or Balsamiq

Microsoft Power BI (PL-300) and/or Fabric certifications strongly preferred

Experience in UI/UX design, graphic design or other areas for analytical visual storytelling

Compensation
At the time of this posting, the estimated annual base salary for this position is $90,000-$100,000. Individual compensation within this range is determined by factors such as job-related skills, relevant experience, and education/training. This range reflects the annual base salary only and does not encompass the comprehensive total rewards package that we proudly offer.
