Surrey PoliceService (SPS) is Surrey's new municipal police agency. On November 29, 2024,SPS became the police of jurisdiction, and assumed responsibility and commandfor policing and law enforcement in Surrey. POSITION OVERVIEW
SurreyPolice Service (SPS) has an exciting opportunity for a Term Full Time CrimeAnalyst 2 position. Reporting to the Criminal Analysis Manager, the incumbentprovides specialized research work involving the application of researchtechniques to support highly complex criminal investigative activities,operational programs, and crime reduction strategies. The incumbent providesstatistical, tactical, and strategic crime analysis services and intelligenceinformation to management. Considerable independence of judgment is exercised. The position is anticipated to begin inNovember 2026 and continue for approximately 12 months . The duration of the term may be shortened orextended based on operational needs.
Schedule / Hours of Work
Thisis an in office position and the anticipated schedule for this position is7.5 hours per day and 37.5 hours per week. Please note, the hours are subjectto change based on operational needs and adherence to the Collective Agreement.
Reviewspolice occurrence files to determine immediate crime problems and patterns ofcriminal activity.
Preparessuspect and victim profiles, suspect lists, maps, and other graphicrepresentations of criminal activity.
Evaluatesand validates intelligence information gathered from various sources.
Developsand maintains comprehensive files, records, and documentation.
Establishesand maintains working relationships with staff and external agencies.
Assistsin the design and planning of projects relative to specific developments ordetailed investigations.
Determineswhich research methodologies are to be utilized for each project.
Participateson project teams to monitor and identify the nature and scope of emerging andpersistent crime problems, trends, socio-economic or demographic factorsrelated to the problem and assess the probability of future crime problems andtrends.
Preparesreports and recommendations for implementing strategies to address identifiedproblems and trends. Provides statistical information and crime analysis.
Providesadvice and assistance on crime analysis and research to members and outsideagencies.
Providestraining to members, staff and external agencies on methods and techniques ofcompilation of data.
Deliverspresentations, briefings, and situation reports on crime trends and relatedmatters.
Providesongoing recommendations in regard to policies, procedures, and operations.
Keepsabreast of developments in the field of crime analysis.
Providescourt testimony as required.
Operatesvarious Surrey Police Service (SPS) operational computer systems.
Assistsother staff in performing their duties.
Performsother job-related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Completionof a university degree in a related discipline including coursework in appliedresearch and statistics.
Completionof a specialty analytic training certificate.
Minimumof five years related experience.
Anequivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Allapplicants must obtain and maintain the required police security clearancethroughouttheir employment with SPS, which includesa mandatory polygraph examination.

This is a unionized position, representedby CUPE 402.
The compensation range is $51.52to $58.40 per hour (pay grade 29B) based on 2024 rates.
