Teaching Assistant in the Early Modern Studies Program (Part-time)

Established in 1789, the University of King's College is Canada's oldest chartered university and is associated with Dalhousie University. The Early Contemporary Studies Program at the University of King's College invites applications for a Teaching Assistant position for "Love, Lust and Desire in Italian Renaissance Art" (EMSP 3280) in the fall 2026 term. The course examines how gender, race and class shaped the visual imaginary of desire in Renaissance Italy (c. 1350-1600). Weekly topics will include: the visual culture of courtly love, marriage and virginity, ideals of beauty and the male gaze, sexual violence, women artists and self-representation, and the fetishization of foreign bodies.

Duties include but are not limited to:

reading course material

grading assignments and exams

holding office hours and assisting students with assignments





attending lectures (please consult the Dalhousie Academic Timetable regarding class time)

moderating discussions and/or tutorials

consulting on a regular basis with the instructor regarding the approach taken in teaching, grading and other expectations

Qualifications and Experience:
Candidates may come from various fields but should have at least an undergraduate degree. Graduates with some background in art history, early modern studies, literature, philosophy or cultural studies are especially encouraged to apply. Prior TA experience is also an asset.

Hourly Rate of Pay: $35.11 (classification will be between TA90 and TA130 depending on enrolment. The position is conditional on the course's final enrolment numbers.
