Building Ontario Fund (BOF) is seeking a full-time Senior Analyst, Investment Risk (This job posting represents an existing vacancy.)
PURPOSE OF POSITION The Senior Analyst, Investment Risk supports the assessment and monitoring of investment risk across the Building Ontario Fund's investment portfolio. The role is responsible for calculating Probability of Default (PD) and Loss Given Default (LGD) metrics to measure Loan Valuation Allowances (LVA) for individual loan investments. The Senior Analyst also assists with counterparty credit analysis, investment valuation, portfolio risk monitoring, and risk reporting.
Working collaboratively with the Investment teams, controllership, and external stakeholders, the Senior Analyst provides analytical insights that support investment decision-making and enhance the long-term performance of the BOF portfolio. The role also supports equity financing and investment valuation activities through advanced financial modeling, market research, and data analytics.
Loan Valuation Allowance and Credit Risk Assessment Conduct timely Loan Valuation Allowance (LVA) assessments to support quarterly reporting and annual financial disclosures.
Support information requests and reviews conducted by the Auditor General's Office, external auditors, and internal stakeholders.
Perform detailed credit risk assessments across BOF's priority sectors, including energy, transportation, affordable housing, long-term care, critical minerals, and municipal infrastructure.
Identify key credit and investment risk drivers and recommend appropriate risk mitigation strategies to support informed investment decision-making.
Portfolio Monitoring and Risk Reporting Perform ongoing post-close monitoring of investments and counterparties.
Review financial statements, project performance reports, covenant compliance certificates, and key operating metrics.
Monitor portfolio risk exposures, credit quality trends, and emerging risks.
Prepare quarterly and annual portfolio risk reports and dashboards for management and stakeholders.
Contribute to management reporting, investment committee materials, and Board reporting.
Conduct portfolio-level analytics, concentration risk assessments, and scenario analyses.
Perform sensitivity, scenario, and stress-testing analyses to assess downside risk under varying economic and market conditions.
Investment and Equity Financing Valuation Support valuation assessments for equity investments, structured financing transactions, and alternative investment opportunities.
Develop and maintain valuation models, including discounted cash flow (DCF), comparable company, precedent transaction, and infrastructure-specific valuation methodologies.
Analyze project economics, capital structures, and risk-adjusted returns for recent and existing investments.
Review sponsor financial models and independently validate key assumptions and outputs.
Assist with periodic fair value assessments and valuation reporting for management and external stakeholders.
Data Analytics and Reporting Develop risk dashboards and portfolio reporting tools using Power BI and other analytical platforms.
Extract, analyze, and interpret investment, financial, and market data from Bloomberg and other internal and external data sources.
Automate recurring reporting processes and enhance data quality controls and governance practices.
Build analytical models to identify portfolio trends, key performance indicators (KPIs),
and risk metrics.
Support the development of data-driven risk management frameworks, reporting capabilities, and portfolio insights.
Transaction Review and Documentation Participate in due diligence activities for prospective investments and financing transactions.
Review investment memoranda, financial models, term sheets, and legal documentation to ensure alignment with BOF's credit risk assessment methodologies and risk management standards.
Stakeholder Collaboration Partner with investment teams, Investment Finance, and Controllership to support valuation, portfolio monitoring, and risk management objectives.
Collaborate with external advisors, lenders, institutional investors, project sponsors, and government stakeholders.
Present analytical findings, risk assessments, and recommendations to management in a clear, concise, and actionable manner.
Risk Frameworks and Process Improvement Contribute to the enhancement of risk assessment methodologies, valuation models, and portfolio monitoring processes.
Support the implementation, testing, validation and integration of new risk management tools and reporting systems.
Support process improvements to align with evolving market practices, regulatory requirements, and policy mandates.
Collaborate with senior Finance and Risk team members to develop and maintain effective risk management policies and processes.
Credit Tools & Process Enhancement Support the implementation of new credit risk tools and methodologies to strengthen portfolio-wide risk assessment and monitoring capabilities.
Collaborate with senior Finance and Risk team members to develop, maintain, and enhance risk management policies, procedures, and governance frameworks.
Identify and recommend process improvements to align with evolving market practices, regulatory requirements, and policy mandates.
Assist in the testing, validation, and integration of new tools, models, and technologies into credit risk assessment, monitoring, and reporting processes.
Contribute to the continuous enhancement of risk analytics, reporting capabilities, and operational efficiency across the investment risk function.
Knowledge & Market Insight Maintain a strong understanding of industry trends, market developments, and infrastructure financing structures.
Monitor developments in infrastructure finance, capital markets, regulatory environments, and public policy that may affect the portfolio.
Apply market and industry insights to strengthen BOF's investment risk framework and decision-making processes.
Other Duties Coach and mentor Credit Risk Analyst, ensuring high-quality output and fostering professional development.
Qualifications Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, or related field, or equivalent experience
Chartered Professional Accountant/Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) or Financial Risk Manager (FRM) Designation (attained or in progress) preferred, but not required
Three (3) to five (5)
years of working experience including credit risk/financial risk analysis, financial statement analysis and corporate credit.
Experience in credit risk rating methodologies, including infrastructure and project finance.
Experience with construction financing and project financing is preferred but not required.
Knowledge and Skills Strong understanding of credit risk analysis, financial statement analysis, and investment valuation methodologies.
Knowledge of project finance structures, infrastructure investments, lending products, and alternative investments.
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including complex financial models, scenario analysis, Power Query, and VBA/macros (asset).
Advanced Power BI skills, including dashboard development, data modeling, and visualization.
Experience using Bloomberg, Capital IQ, Dun & Bradstreet, or other market data and investment analytics platforms.
Strong data analytics and quantitative problem-solving capabilities.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to synthesize complex financial information into actionable insights.

The expected salary for this role is CA$96,000 - $125,000 for candidates who meet the stated qualifications.
