POSITION: Trans- Mechanic - Casual
SITE: Transportation
HOURS: on call

WAGE: AS PER UNION AGREEMENT
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, ABILITY AND SKILLS:
- Class 2 Driver's License with Air Brake endorsement preferred
- Occupational First Aid Level 1 Certificate
- Personality and aptitude for working with students
Description:
Under the direction of the Transportation Manager repairs and maintains all School District buses; vehicles and equipment; and performs as a bus driver as needed. Be responsible for the day-to-day routine of the mechanics' shop.
Duties:
- Diagnose problems, repair and perform general maintenance of all buses, equipment and vehicles including adjustment of engines, transmissions, differentials, hydraulics, electrical systems, and clutches on gas and diesel equipment; tune up engines, ignitions parts, clean and adjust carburetors; perform minor body repair; respond to breakdowns.
- Perform preventative maintenance and make inspections of buses for proper working order and protected operation.
- Order, stock and inventory parts and supplies as needed.
- Maintain and keep current an inventory and accountability of parts, tools, supplies and equipment.
- Use department funds in an economically responsible manner.
- Directs, advises or assists other employees as appropriate.
- Ensure shop organization, cleanliness and safety.
- Make recommendations on equipment replacement.
- May be required to drive any bus route as assigned by the Transportation Manager.
Qualifications:
- Automotive or Heavy-Duty Mechanic Certification
- Commercial Transport Mechanic Certification
- Commercial Inspection Certification
- High school diploma
- Occupational First Aid Level 1 Certification
- Minimum of one-year related experience at the journeyman level.
- Physical capability to perform the job duties
- Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications.
- Valid B.C. Class 2 driver's license with an Air Brake Endorsement preferred

- A professional attitude The starting hourly rate of pay for this Transportation Mechanic position is $36.78 per hour.
