Title: Treaty/Language/Culture Coordinator
Location: Tribal Chiefs Area in Northeastern Alberta
Start Date: September 1, 2026
Term of Employment: Contract on daily basis

Tribal Chiefs Education Foundation is seeking a dynamic and self-motivated individual to fill the role of Treaty/Language/Culture Coordinator. As an advisory organization, TCEF serves and supports the schools of the 6 member First Nations of Heart Lake, Beaver Lake, Whitefish Lake 128, Kehewin, Frog Lake and Cold Lake. As a contractor, the successful candidate will work in collaboration with the Literacy, Numeracy, and Land-Based Education coordinators under the direct supervision of the TCEF Education Director.
PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF WORK – the successful candidate will work with educators and school administrators, students, and members of the TCEF SLS (second level services) team in the following deliverables:
- Establish and maintain a vibrant Cree/Dene language teacher/instructor cohort through regularly scheduled in-person and virtual meetings and training sessions
- Uphold and honor the supports outlined in the TCEF Education Success Plan 2023-28
- Provide training opportunities in the area of language acquisition and retention based on models and tools supported by research
- Establish and maintain a network of people identified as experts/knowledge keepers of Cree/Dene language
- Assist in infusing and embedding cultural standards in all aspects of school life
- Assist in the implementation of First Nation history, treaty, and culture in schools for teachers, administrators, parents and students
- Assist in the planning of the annual TCEF Learning Day
- Submit and present a final comprehensive SLS report to the TCEF Board of Directors at the conclusion of each school year
- Maintain self-generated work plan and self-monitor progress, activities and outputs
- Establish and maintain inventory of professionals available to train teachers/instructors in the language, treaty and culture
- Coordinate and implement treaty/language/culture activities that will support and further enhance learning such as immersion camps and treaty education camps
- Support language teachers/instructors with resources such as books, manuals, teaching aids and kits including audio and visual
- Assist with the land-based education program when schedule permits
QUALIFICATIONS
- In possession of a valid Alberta teaching license
- Bachelor of Education
- Master of Education specializing in Indigenous languages would be an asset
- Fluency in oral and written Indigenous language
- Knowledge of Cree/Dene culture, history, and treaty
- Knowledge and experience with protocols and processes working with Cree and Dene First Nations
- Proven successful teaching experience
- Proficiency of understanding the Alberta Education Programs of Study
- Ability to work with little or no supervision
- Must have strong communication, writing and organizational skills
- Proven experience in designing, planning and facilitating career development for teachers/instructors would be a definite asset
- Must submit a current Vulnerable Sector Check (RCMP) and Intervention Record Check (Child and Family Services)
