Position: 2nd Class Stationary Engineer (In Training)
Location: Niagara region, ON
Shift: 8-hour rotation every week (days, afternoons, and Nights)
Pay: $80,000 – $90,000 annually
Position Type: Full-time, Permanent (Direct Hire)
The 2nd Class Stationary Engineer (In Training) will work closely with the Chief Stationary Engineer to support plant reliability, oversee capital projects, and contribute to high-performance production operations within a steel manufacturing environment. The successful candidate will provide technical support across engineering and maintenance functions while ensuring compliance with all safety and operational standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Complete all duties and responsibilities in compliance with the Technical Standards & Safety Authority (TSSA) Code
- Perform and record operational checks and servicing of pump house, water reclaims, cooling towers, baghouses, air conditioning, boilers, compressors, and auxiliaries
- Inspect equipment, adjust pump and fan sequences, maintain chemical supplies, and manually operate filter backwash systems as required
- Conduct operational checks and servicing of compressor rooms and related auxiliary equipment
- Monitor meters, record readings, collect and test water samples, add chemicals to water systems, and adjust blowdowns for proper boiler water concentrations
- Perform daily maintenance tasks such as lubricating equipment and packing pumps, while assisting with major overhauls and repairs
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical systems involving hydraulics, pneumatics, and rotating equipment
- Inspect mechanical equipment to identify replacement needs, service requirements, and abnormal operating conditions
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and manufacturers’ specifications to support repairs and installations
- Maintain a strong focus on workplace safety and ensure compliance with all Health & Safety policies and procedures
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Must hold a valid Ontario 3rd Class Operating Engineer Certificate with hands-on operating experience, OR candidates currently working towards obtaining their 2nd Class Stationary Engineer Certification are also encouraged to apply
- Robust troubleshooting, diagnostic, and mechanical aptitude
- Knowledge of boilers, compressors, pumps, cooling systems, and auxiliary equipment
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment
- Willingness to work in a fast-paced industrial setting with rotating shifts, overtime, and weekend availability as required
- Strong commitment to workplace safety and continuous improvement
