Salary range: $117,669 to $133,533 per year, 37.5 hours/week

Northern Allowance: $23,986 to $24,803 per year

Housing: Subsidized Staff Housing is not Available

This employment opportunity is restricted to residents of Gjoa Haven, Kugluktuk, and Kugaaruk only.

Reporting to the Manager, Community Programs, the Adult Educator is responsible for planning, organizing, delivering, and evaluating educational programming for adults in the community through Nunavut Arctic College. The successful candidate will provide instruction and instructional support, identify and document adult learning needs in the community as well as manage and maintain the learning workplace at the Community Learning Centre.

Responsibilities

Other key responsibilities of the position include:

- Providing direct supervision of the janitor, supporting casual staff, managing program delivery, and providing educational and career counselling services;

- Overseeing building maintenance and operations;

- Conducting annual training needs assessments; and

- Teaching a range of adult basic programming, which may include literacy, essential skills, basic education, and academic readiness.

Qualifications The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through a high school diploma, a certificate in adult education with a minimum of one full academic year of teaching experience as an adult educator in a post-secondary setting. Assets include experience applying adult education techniques in a relevant field (Adult Basic Education, ESL, Aboriginal Languages, Life Skills), experience in educational/career/personal counselling with demonstrated cultural sensitivity,



and experience in supervision and/or leadership.

This is a Position of Trust and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check is required.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. The ability to communicate in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
