The University and Employment Preparation Department, Faculty of Education and Social Work, invites applications for the position of Limited Term Assistant Teaching Professor in the Education and Skills Training (ESTR) program. The program provides students with barriers to employment the knowledge, skills and training needed for entry-level job opportunities. The successful applicant will have the ability to foster a supportive and dynamic learning workplace for young and mature adults who are working towards entry level employment positions and are working towards achieving greater independence.

DUTIES

It is expected that the successful candidate will:

- Practice scholarly teaching in lectures, labs and practica
- Perform ongoing curricular development in lectures, labs and practica




- Create and maintain a quality and safe learning environment
- Support and advocate for ESTR students
- Contribute, through service, to Program, Department, Faculty, TRU, and the wider community
- Participate in the recruitment and selection of students
- Evaluate student performance and be available for student consultation
- Develop and supervise practicum placements
- Liaise with employers to support students in their practicum placements
- Travel to and from practicum placements

Requirements

- A Master’s degree in a relevant discipline required or, in exceptional circumstances only, equivalent qualifications and experience that demonstrate the knowledge, skills and abilities normally developed in a master's program.
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline or Red Seal in a relevant field required
- Teaching Certificate, or Instructor’s Diploma, or Special Education Certificate required

EXPERIENCE

- Working with students with intellectual, developmental disabilities, learning disabilities, other neuro-diverse abilities required
- In employment preparation / supporting students through the career planning and career decision making process required
- Practicum coordination experience preferred
- Project-based learning, experiential learning, and work integrated learning preferred
- Experience in integrating Indigenous knowledge and teaching methods (Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action 63) preferred
- Skills in building student capacity for intercultural understanding, empathy, and mutual respect (TRC CA 62) preferred
- Teaching excellence, including developing culturally appropriate curricula (TRC CA 10) preferred
