Job Summary

Canada U-Tutoring Learning Institute is a non-profit educational organization committed to providing accessible, inclusive, and high-quality academic support for students.

We are currently seeking an experienced Bilingual ESL Teacher who is fluent in both Mandarin Chinese and English to join our teaching team for the upcoming academic term.

The ideal candidate should have experience teaching English to Chinese-speaking elementary and/or secondary school students. Candidates must be able to explain English concepts clearly in both Mandarin and English and help students build a strong foundation in phonics, vocabulary, grammar, reading, listening, speaking, and writing.

Our programs include both small-group classes and one-on-one instruction. Teachers are expected to deliver structured and engaging lessons, adapt instruction based on students’ English proficiency and learning needs, and work collaboratively with our academic team to support consistent student progress.

Experience & Qualifications

Previous ESL teaching or tutoring experience is required.

We are looking for candidates who have:

- Fluency in both Mandarin Chinese and English
- Relevant ESL teaching or tutoring experience
- Experience working with elementary and/or secondary school students
- Strong knowledge of phonics and the ability to teach letter sounds, blending, decoding, pronunciation, and spelling patterns
- Experience teaching effective vocabulary-learning and word-memorization strategies
- Strong knowledge of English grammar and the ability to explain grammar concepts clearly
- Experience teaching reading comprehension, listening comprehension, speaking, and writing
- Ability to help students develop sentences, paragraphs, and structured compositions
- Excellent spoken and written English
- Clear and accurate English pronunciation
- Ability to use Mandarin strategically to explain difficult concepts while gradually increasing students’ use of English
- Ability to identify students’ strengths, weaknesses, and learning gaps
- Ability to adapt instruction to different English proficiency levels, academic levels, and learning styles
- Strong classroom management and student engagement skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to provide explicit, constructive, and professional feedback




- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Reliability, professionalism, patience, and a collaborative attitude

Experience with the Ontario English curriculum, ESL programs, English language assessments, standardized test preparation, or academic writing is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

- Deliver structured and engaging ESL lessons in small-group and one-on-one settings
- Teach phonics, including letter-sound relationships, blending, decoding, pronunciation, spelling patterns, and word recognition
- Teach practical vocabulary-building and word-memorization strategies
- Teach English grammar through clear explanations, examples, exercises, and guided practice
- Develop students’ reading fluency and comprehension skills
- Improve students’ listening comprehension and ability to understand spoken English
- Support students in developing confidence and accuracy in spoken English
- Teach sentence structure, paragraph writing, creative writing, and academic writing based on students’ levels
- Use both Mandarin and English appropriately to support understanding and encourage students to communicate in English
- Follow teaching plans and curriculum-aligned resources provided for designated programs
- Adapt lesson pacing, explanations, examples, and activities based on student understanding and classroom performance
- Deliver individualized instruction based on each student’s English level, learning goals, and areas for improvement
- Review and mark student homework and provide meaningful, constructive feedback
- Prepare supplementary exercises, worksheets, vocabulary activities, quizzes, or assessments when appropriate
- Monitor student progress and identify areas requiring additional support
- Provide regular feedback on student learning and classroom performance
- Communicate professionally with parents and the academic team when required
- Maintain a positive, structured, encouraging, and supportive learning environment




- Follow organizational teaching expectations, academic standards, and classroom procedures
- Participate in training, meetings, and academic discussions when required
- Collaborate with the academic team to support continuous improvement in teaching quality and student outcomes

Preferred Candidate

We are looking for teachers who understand the common challenges Chinese-speaking students may experience when learning English and who can explain language concepts clearly in both Mandarin and English.

Strong candidates can teach phonics systematically, help students remember and apply new vocabulary, explain grammar in an easy-to-understand way, and develop students’ reading, listening, speaking, and writing skills.

Candidates should be able to balance structure with encouragement, maintain appropriate classroom expectations, and recognize when a student requires additional explanation, practice, or a different instructional approach.

Candidates may be asked to complete an interview and teaching demonstration as part of the selection process.

Only candidates with relevant teaching or tutoring experience will be considered.

Bachelor’s degree in Education, English, Linguistics, TESOL, or a related field is preferred.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $25.00-$50.00 per hour
