Shift Schedule: Monday to Thursday from 6:30 pm - 12:00 am (Midnight)Compensation: $23.00 per hour, discounted meal on shift, professional development opportunities About the AMS The Alma Mater Society (AMS), established as a formal constitution of UBC's student organization in 1915, is UBC's official student union and is the largest student union in Canada. Operating as an independent organization of UBC, the AMS advocates students' interests and provides opportunities for their growth and advancement. The AMS represents over 56,000 undergraduate and graduate students and its priorities are determined by these members.
In addition to offering services to students, the AMS is an advocate of students' issues and ensures the needs of students are presented to the University administration and the provincial and federal governments. The AMS Nest is located on the traditional, ancestral and unceded land of the Musqueam people. Every student at UBC is part of the AMS and the AMS is the manifestation of a shared student experience.
From providing advocacy, to student services that support health and education, to reducing student debt, the AMS fights for student interest to the University and all levels of government so that all students can succeed in life and take ownership over their time at the University of British Columbia. Position Purpose
We are recruiting for a Building Operations Maintenance Assistant to help support the upkeep of our state-of-the-art, 250,000 square foot facility.
The Maintenance
Assistant is responsible for the ongoing maintenance and repair of all venues and equipment in the Student Union Building (THE NEST) in compliance with AMS standards and procedures and regulatory legislation (e.g.
Food Secure
Standards, WHMIS). They provide day-to-day maintenance of the facility to keep all building fabric, fittings and equipment in good repair. This is a great position for those who are completing their education and have some experience in handy work or alternatively those who have industry experience and are looking for a single facility operation.
Duties and Responsibilities Support Maintenance Supervisor and follow directions
Support Building Operations Duty Manager during closing of the building
Interact with members of the public to guide them out during closing
Minor repairs to furniture and equipment
Minor painting and finishing
Ordering supplies as per AMS standards and procedures
Maintaining in order and safely utilizing workshop equipment, tools and supplies
Loading and moving materials, including furniture and equipment
General maintenance and handyperson duties: assembling, lifting, moving
Cleaning duties: sweeping, mopping, clearing beer lines, maintaining the loading dock areas and workshop
Other duties as required Qualifications and Experience Experience in basic drywall, painting and other repair work is an asset
Trades background as a building maintenance worker, handyman, cooling technician, carpenter or similar is an asset
Trade certifications are an asset
Required to speak, read and write English
Strong interpersonal skills and communication skills
Demonstrated positive attitude and strong work ethic
Physically fit to perform the duties of maintenance and repairs, such as the ability to lift up to 60kgs (132lbs)
