CNC Applications Engineer / Manufacturing Engineer (Precision Machining)

Position Overview
We are seeking a CNC Applications / Manufacturing Engineer who can take full ownership of machining solutions — from customer RFQ and technical review through to production implementation.
This is a high-impact, front-end engineering role where you will act as the technical lead for machining, working directly with customers, internal teams, and the shop floor to develop effective, cost-effective manufacturing strategies.
Key Responsibilities
RFQ & Customer Interface
- Review customer drawings, RFQs, and technical requirements
- Participate in technical discussions with customers to clarify specifications and manufacturability
- Lead DFM (Design for Manufacturability) conversations and recommend optimized machining solutions
- Develop accurate costing inputs including cycle time, tooling, and process considerations
Machining Strategy & Process Development
- Define complete machining strategy including:
- Operation sequence
- Tooling selection
- Workholding / fixture concepts
- Develop process plans for complex machined components (tight tolerances, complex geometries)
- Support new product introduction (NPI) from concept through production
CNC Programming & Implementation
- Create and optimize CNC programs (3-axis, 4-axis, 5-axis milling and/or turning)
- Work with CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, NX, or similar)
- Lead program prove-outs, troubleshooting, and process optimization on the shop floor
- Collaborate with machinists and operators to ensure successful execution
Production Support & Continuous Improvement
- Optimize cycle times, tooling performance, and machining efficiency
- Resolve technical challenges related to machining, quality, and process capability
- Support ongoing production with process improvements and cost reduction initiatives
Qualifications / Required
- 5+ years of experience in CNC machining / manufacturing engineering environment
- Strong background in:
- CNC machining (milling, turning, multi-axis)
- CAM programming (Mastercam, NX, or equivalent)
- Experience reviewing engineering drawings and GD&T;
- Hands-on experience with process development and machining strategy
- Exposure to RFQ, quoting, or cycle time estimation
- Strong understanding of tooling, fixturing, and machining processes
Preferred
- Experience in aerospace, automotive, or high-precision manufacturing
- Exposure to materials such as titanium, stainless steel, Inconel
- Experience with customer-facing technical discussions
- Familiarity with ERP systems and production workflows
