Our client, a well-established automotive dealership in Peel Region is seeking an experienced Financial Controller to join their team. This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned professional with automotive dealership accounting experience to take on a key leadership role within a growing organization.
Responsibilities
- Oversee all accounting operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger.
- Prepare monthly financial statements and management reports for dealership ownership and OEM requirements.
- Manage month-end and year-end closing processes.
- Coordinate and support annual audits and OEM financial reviews.
- Monitor and analyze departmental budgets, forecasts, and financial performance.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, dealership policies, and manufacturer requirements.
- Oversee and assist with onboarding, training and performance management of staff within the Accounting team (ie. AP/AR, deal clerk).
- Manage inventory accounting and reconciliations (new vehicles, used vehicles, parts).
- Oversee cash management and banking relationships.
- Prepare and file GST/HST returns and other regulatory filings.
- Supervise and mentor accounting team members.
- Work closely with dealership management on financial planning and analysis.
- Implement and maintain internal controls and accounting procedures.
- Manage dealership management system (DMS) accounting functions.
- Support sales and service departments with financial processes and reporting.
Skills & Qualifications
- Minimum 3+ years of automotive dealership accounting experience,
in a current or previous Financial Controller role.
- Strong knowledge of dealership operations and manufacturer accounting requirements.
- Post-secondary education in Accounting; enrolment in or completion of CPA designation considered an asset.
- Experience with DMS systems (ie. Reynolds & Reynolds, CDK, PBS).
- Proven experience preparing financial statements and management reports.
- Strong understanding of inventory accounting (new/used vehicles, parts).
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Robust attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Team leadership and mentoring experience.
- CPA designation or working towards completion is highly valued.
