6 weeks summer job

One Training week: June 22 to June 26 (32 hours)

Five Camp weeks: June 29 – July 31, 2026

Hours: Weekdays, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM (8 hours)

Note: No camp on July 1, 2026 (Canada Day - Statutory Holiday)

Age Range: 15–30 years old

Preferred Education: No specific preference, though relevant experience or studies in teaching, recreation, or related fields are an asset.

Job Summary

This summer, join our team as a Camp Counsellor and gain valuable experience while helping to create a positive, inclusive, and fun camp experience for children of all abilities. This position is part of the Canada Summer Jobs program, offering opportunities for career development, especially in teaching, coaching, and recreation. The role is ideal for individuals looking to build skills in child supervision, leadership, and program facilitation, while making a meaningful impact in the community.

As a Camp Counsellor, you will work directly with a Camp Leader to supervise and engage with up to 20 children during camp activities. The role is funded by the government with a focus on increasing employment opportunities for youth, especially those from underrepresented communities.

Tasks and Responsibilities

1. Assist in organizing and leading a variety of camp activities to ensure a fun, engaging, and inclusive experience for all campers.

2. Ensure the safety, well-being, and positive experience of all campers throughout the camp day, including supervising activities and providing emotional and social support.

3. Provide guidance and support to campers during activities, offering encouragement and assistance as needed.

4. Set up and clean up camp areas before and after activities to maintain a protected and organized environment.

5. Collaborate with the Camp Supervisor to ensure the camp experience is inclusive, engaging, and enriching for all campers, following the camp's policies and guidelines.

6. Sign in and check out campers in the morning and afternoon,



ensuring attendance is accurate and that any changes in camper status are documented.

7. Monitor camper behaviour and intervene when necessary to maintain safety, discipline, and positive camp dynamics.

8. Maintain documentation of incidents, contacts, and safety checklists for camp spaces and equipment, ensuring accurate and timely reporting.

9. Complete all required training including, but not limited to, emergency and safety protocols, first aid, and activity leadership to ensure compliance with camp standards.

10. Stay up to date with all protocols and training, proactively ensuring that knowledge of safety measures and camp procedures is current and accurate.

11. Report any safety concerns or issues to the Camp Supervisor in a timely manner to ensure prompt action can be taken.

12. Assist in the preparation of camp materials, equipment, and resources for activities and ensure they are in good condition for use.

Qualifications

- Age: 15 to 30 years old.

- Background Check: Must pass a criminal background check (not applicable for applicants under 18 years old).

- Availability: Available to work from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday.

- Teamwork: Ability to work well both independently and as part of a team.

- Experience: Previous experience working with children is an asset, but not required.

- Assets: A background in Judo or other martial arts or recreational activities is a plus, but not necessary.
