Saskatoon Public Schools is the largest school division in Saskatchewan, serving nearly 29,000 students with the support of more than 3,300 dedicated skilled and support staff. SASKATOON PUBLIC SCHOOLS REQUIRES A:
Educational Assistant
Full-time, part-time and casual
Educational Assistants provide support in the delivery of educational programming to students with intensive needs and support students in reaching their maximum potential and level of independence.
The successful candidate will:
- Work as part of an interdisciplinary school team in supporting student(s) to meet the goals identified in the student's IPP.
- Support students with personal care needs including feeding, personal hygiene, mobility, toileting and transportation. This may also include transfers, lifts and repositioning.
- Support students with health and medical-related needs as required, following established care plans and directions from school staff or health professionals.
- Promote, facilitate and model positive behavior interventions and support to encourage, support, reinforce and facilitate appropriate and positive student behavior and social interactions.
- Support the development of student communication skills through appropriate strategies, tools and systems tailored to individual needs.
- Ensure the safety of all students including supervision during non-instructional times such as bus, playground, hallways, gym and field trips.
- Implement behavior strategies to support safety and independence.
- Collect and share observational data related to student progress, behavior and learning to inform instructional and behavioral planning, under the direction of the classroom teacher or team.
The successful candidate will have:
- Post-secondary education related to special education or a related support services field is preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Professional Assault Response (PART) training and Transfer Lifting Repositioning certification is beneficial.
- First Aid, CPR and AED training is an asset.
- Ability to perform the physical demands required for this position, such as lifting and transferring students who require assistance with toileting or mobility.
- Ability to work in a variety of environments.
- Ability to respond to students with severe opposition, aggressive, threatening behaviors and the use of inappropriate and/or threatening language.
What you can expect:
Full-time employees work 30 hours per week.
Casual employees may accept days of work, allowing flexibility to work around your availability.
